I have a 1989 90 with a 19j engine and over the last year or so it's started dropping out of first gear but only when cold and only when waiting at a junction with foot on the clutch. It's fine on and off load and after 10 minutes or so stays in fine. Just changed the gearbox oil and although the other gears seem slicker it's still dropping out of 1st, any ideas?

If you can be arsed, I'd be inclined to change that for Redline Synthetic MTF , not cheap though, but will last a very long time, and is not hygroscopic!
Info provided from a post dating back to a 2010 discussion on LZ.
I use MTF in mine without any detriment!
Hope this helps.

Does your stick rattle about a lot at tickover,if so the spring adjustment may be out.Spring is at base of stick on the top of the box.

It does a bit,I wouldn't say excessively. The gear selection is pretty good with no stirring around to find a gear,b it may be worth having a play with the spring.
