While removing torque convertor bolts on my engine 4.6 gems, I rounded one of the bolts and they are a pig to get at!

Can I remove the 4 bolts that hold flywheel and flex to crank to get access? Anybody done this? Are they too tight for an open ended wrench?

Any other access suggestions?

Cheers Andy

If you use an open spanner on any of these you will have more rounded off bolts to get out. Good single hex ring key ONLY on these.

Warmers - thought so, but no space to get a ring spanner over bolt head due to tc.

Engine out. On bench but access poor

i use a socket ,easier with sump off or starter,or even give access to hit bolt with longish punch

Yep sump off seems to be next option although some heat on the threads to burn off threadless may also help?

Tried irwin bolt grip sockets but they simply chew more metal from bolt head maybe better if I could hammer it on.

Final option is to cut through tc mount.

Well, an update....

Tried some heat but made little difference but still trying to avoid sump while engine suspended on engine crane so made a special 'thin' 1/2 ring spanner with the help of Mr angle grinder..... Success! torque convertor removed with flex plate.

Now having inspected rounded bolt and tried hammering on a socket, then irwin bolt extractor socket and finally getting a chisel out all to no avail it's obvious this was put on to stay and there was no way to remove while fitted in vehicle.

Anyway welded on a 24mm nut and then my impact wrench made light work of it.

Hope this helps somebody in a similar situation?

Way to go. You should see the "Special" spanners in my tool box.
