I am fabricating a drop plate to mount a tow-bar to my 90 and I want to add tie bars to strengthen it. I am making it in 10mm plate and have made it into channel for extra strength but I will be towing some heavy stuff so it will need extra support - where do people bolt the tie bars to please?

2 pices of angle would have done ,theres 2 tubes welded to underside of chassis about a foot from the rear that tie down brackets bolt 2 or tow brackets supports do

Thanks James, I didn't originally plan any tie bars so I designed it to be strong and look pukka, and I have a mate who bent the plate into channel for me so all I have to do is drill the mounting holes, but having thought about it I think it will need the tie bars. Cheers for the steer.

it needs tie bars in any case on a defender they are fitted as standard as tow ball is going to sit under the rear cross member level, the bolts are 10mm by about 110mm

Thanks James,

here is what I ended up fabricating, the 10mm channel didn't work out as it was bent too narrow, so I used an old drop plate I had that was too short, which I extended with some thick angle and then made the tie bars from box section.
