Hi Peeps, my f/l has a droning noise when cruising, sounds like a distant Hercules, most noticeable from 50mph and gets louder as you go faster. Is this normal for freelanders ?!? Its an 04 td4 manual. Cheers,Rob

Hi check that all 4 tyres are the same make/model/size , also check if your VCU gets very hot after a run ,DO NOT IGNORE THE DRONE check the above and let us know asap .

Tyres all match, new onthe back.Going to Scarboro' tomorrow so will check for heat in vcu. Cheers, will report back.

Wheel bearings? Dunno about Freelanders, but the drone sounds like a few cars I've had with semi knackered bearings.

If it's VCU related, swap it quick, the IRD costs a lot more than a recon VCU :(

If you get chance to remove the prop and VCU go for it and it will give you some idea if VCU/bearings on prop or something else.

Checked it out after a run and eveything seemed ok  But as its still under warranty took it back for the dealer to look at.They couldn't find anything wrong so we came to the conclusion that twas the tyres.Apart from the droning it was driving fine!
However !!! today was doing a 3 point turn when it stopped dead, put it in reverse ,loud bang and set going again. drove home and a light knocking noise appeared, that within 2 miles was a LOUD knocking noise
Anyway its getting trailered to the dealer tomorrow to sort it (hopefully):baby:
