Hi guys, i have read through past posts on this subject (over two hours) but i can't find the an answer, i have a 1999> p38 4.6 thor.

Problem is i can't open the drivers door, button lifts on all doors and can open all doors and tailgate except drivers, read loads yesterday and bit the bullet and bought a new lock £141 not a problem if it works, 3 1/2 hrs later all fixed, tried unlock and lock a couple of times all seemed well.

Went out this morning unlocked the car and opened the drivers door, result, well no, went to get out and it wouldn't open and doors locked, lifted latch and pushed the remote would unlock and then relock itself within a second or two, i climbed out the passenger side, closed the door and it locks itself again.

I have read more today and carried out some of the tests suggested, as for the interior light thing mine come on when the doors are unlocked you don't have to open a door (always done it), the display shows door open when it is and if all the doors are closed the display is clear, the interior lights go out when the engine starts or the exit delay has timed out, the old unit i took out by the look of it is the older design with the separate connector with the single black wire and yes the replacement had the same connections.

I am really at a loss what to do next or where to look, hope i don't have to destroy this new lock to get the door open again, i climb in and out of the car about a couple dozen times a day so climbing into the passengers side to get out is getting a bit tiresome now.

Any advise please
Cheers for now

also noticed tonight that when the doors lock themselves the red alarm doesn't flash, but if i push the lock button on the remote it then flashes as it would normally.

It's really unclear to me what your exact symptoms are but door locks are well known to burn out due to over activity on the RF receiver causing the doors to constantly relock. My '99 HSE had the same problem which was cured by disconnecting the RF antenna (blue wire I think) from the RF receiver in the right hand side of the trunk. It might be worth checking if this wire is still connected and if so disconnect it. Hopefully that will stop your doors locking and your new £141 investment going the same way as the one you replaced...

Thanks JT, i removed the blue wire and it made no difference. fob or key.

If i use the fob to unlock the doors all the buttons pop up and it locks again almost straight away, if i use the key in the door it does the same, the only way i can get into the car is to press the remote unlock button and grab the door handle and open the door straight away, the door lock buttons drop even on the open door, when you close the door it unlocks and locks again on it's own, this works on all the doors and tail gate, except the drivers door, so the only way i can drive is to climb over from the passengers side, if i hold the drivers side button in the up position and let go gently, it will unlock all the doors and they stay unlocked, but i still can't open the drivers door.

Inside door pull cable frayed and jamming and not letting quadrant return, shoved with a screwdriver and all working :D
