Seems every year my something break on the Freelander as soon as the freezing starts!

Driver door central lock, it will lock using remote but the won't unlock. Can operate lock or unlock with key. Opens fine from inside handle.

I had one rear door lock seize during cold in 2009 but managed to remove, strip down and been fine ever since.

Anyone know if something likely to have snapped/worn in front. looks a pain to get to that bolt and remove so is it worth getting new for the 60 quid they are?

Usually one of the internal solenoids within the lock fails and the usual symptom of locking ok but not unlocking with the fob starts  Only option is to replace the entire latch but its easy enough to fit.

that right hand bolts a pain - I will attempt when it warms up a bit! Looks like handle needs to come off to allow access to internal release cable.

Yes, take off the door card and that gives access to the exterior handle bolts, remove these and unclip the accutating rod from the handle then lift out the handle watching that the locking barrel doesnt fall!

This gives great access to replace the latch mechanism - easy to do once you get into it :)

Yes and while you have the card removed, silicone grease the window runners and cable . . . . . . .

you don't have to take the outer handle off. can all be done by fiddling inside the door.

(top tip from minge though)

All done got a genuine LR part for 60 quid. About an hour to fit - main problem is getting the door handle off as it's a bit fiddly.

Nice to have remote locking again!

After the horror stories about failed locks and drilling out felt it was worth it, even if she was still working using the key.
