SeriesIII

Looking to buy a Land Rover for my son. He's going to be 17 and wants a Defender. He's left school and is training as a Blacksmith and wants something that will 1) Get him to work in the winter (the forge is in the middle of nowhere) through the floods and snow and 2) carry his kit 3) be something fun to work on. I think a Series 3 is what we need - Diesel, but I'm being driven mad by the insurance companies. Are all Series 3 Private Light Goods? I think it's making insurance a lot more expensive.

Would you like them to be classed as HGV's then, would that make the insurance cheaper??:doh:

Oh! :welcome2: but if you do a search you'll find that insurance and young drivers has been done to death on here. :D

try putting as a named driver rather than a main driver makes a big difference, try a local broker rather than go compare etc

Tried to get a quote earlier today and was told that I needed to get VAN insurance because of the type of vehicle it was. Quote was more than I expected - double that of the Discovery I have.

Why not get a disco 200? Cheaper to buy and insure? And a little smaller than a 110? Still easy to work on

as i said before , cost wise disco 200 will be cheaper to buy and insure than a series, nicer drive and just as easy to maintain

Not set on Series 3 just thought if might be cheaper to insure - car for my son.

No No No No It don't work like that and unless your son is special, he'll be *issed off with a Series in no time at all. To be honest any small to medium sized van will do for what your son needs, but it'll be just as eggspencive to insure but cheaper to run. ;)
