Well I don’t know what could have happened to the spacer on the short side on mine unless it stayed inside the cv joint but I don’t think so but there’s no cir clip on it either unless they both came off the shaft

It's cold enough at the moment, I take it the groove is for a c clip like on the Mini's CVs knock them on so they don't slide off when fitting.
The groove is just for that, most cv kits have a new c clip and some clips need to checked that they are settled before knocking on the cv unit as they can get bent and fast become a nightmare. I did a pair of kia sedona cv's and one of them had been battered onto the shaft. I had to remove it from the car and cut through the inner knuckle with a 115mm grinder. The clip was mashed, the new one went on really well in comparison.
Oh, I'll bring some beers.

Got new one with new joint would you say replace both with new clips or just use the old clip that’s still in place

If you've got a new one my friend then use it. Slide it onto the shaft... Ooooer before you grease it up ooerr, and check the c clip is sat correctly before you knock it on!! Then grease it up baby!!
