Somthing is definitly f***ed and i cant find what! OK, Heres the symptoms;

When driving on full lock steering, somthing is clanging very loudly. You can feel it through the floor. :mad:

Front near side seems to be making some very nasty bearing noises and clangs when jacked up with front wheels spinning. :mad:

When driving, there is a bearing grinding noise when in gear but with no load on the drive. :mad:

There is a squeek when driving. :mad: :mad: :mad:

All the wheel bearings are fine, as are the UJs. Its possible ive left the diff lock in by accident recently, but the axel was "skipping" on full lock before then. The bushes on the front swinger arms (think thats the right terms) seem to have some play, allowing the front axel to tip foward and backward, this could cause some problems, but not the grinding noises?!?

It cant be that complicated, what the hell is wrong with this thing! :confused:

I wasnt expect it to be. MOT is due soon, and I dont realy like driving it like this anyway, so id better get it out the way.

Ah'd deffo change the bushes that yer on about first and then take it from there. if it does turn out to be yer cv's then check the condition of yer balls, seals, bearings, etc while ye're there as it'll save ye havin' tae strip it all off again;) :D

Your welcom to do mine too; soon as im sitting here with the Haynes manual open to the right page, the work shop manual open at the right page, and the Busterbus all singing all dancing manual open; and i still dont have a clue what im looking at! :( :confused:

the haynes was useless for me, i used a cd rom i bought a while back. yea i would start wit the pas box as they do leak commonly in the defenderrs then i would move onto front axle includin bearings seals etc

If ye were quite close to me then ah'd do them for ye no probs. Did a mates not so long ago and it was certainly easier the second time round:D
The only soddin' thing ah didn't put in me piccies was the cv joint and half shaft!! And ah forgot tae take piccies of me mates one as well!!!!! It's very easy to change if needs be.. take out half shaft with cv attached, stick shaft in vice, hold the floppy end and tw@ it with a rubber/copper/brass/wooden mallet away from the shaft and it'll pop off. To replace just tw@ it back on with mallet of your choice;) :D

'Ere Woody, if ye look at chapter 9.2 in the haynes manual, bottom piccy shows the cv comin' out along with the half shaft;)

i have piccies 2 do me own guide 4 this, i did a different method 2 buster, found it a bit easier. Wil do it soon!

Just had it all appart, wheel bearings and CV joint are both good as new. :confused:
There seems to be some play in the swivil pin bearings, but not much, i doubt it would cause the axel to hop. How am i supposed to fix it if it aint broke?!? :mad:
