Few months back had 1 squealing like hell.got replacement and changed it. When i removed it fell apart literally in my hand. Fitted new 1 in and now 5 weeks later thats done the same. When belt is spinning around the tensioner that bolts to engine is bouncing around alot and the new bearing is still squeaking. So is it time to change the full thing or is there a bearing on the engine side of it i could change or can i grease the tensioner up a bit as wd40 will stop it squeaking for 5 minutes

You might want to check the security of the fixing rod that holds the tensioner. It screws into an aluminium housing. It can get loose, I had to replace mine with a bolt and screw it in a bit further, I also had to use the penny trick to stop the squealing too.

I changed my tensioner a couple of times & still got that annoying chirp sound. I only cured the chirp with a Dayco tensioner & belt. No problem since (8 months) now.

It is annoying me i picked up a bearig so will chuck that in and look at replacing the full thing in next few weeks

'cause im cheap, i just did the bearing in mine, but, for the amount of bother it was, i think that, in hindsight, id have bought the entire unit.

I cant recall the exact details, but i think it was somthing to do with getting the circlip out.

The circlip is easy once you know what ya doin. I done my bearing and tightened it all up.and still got a squeak. But when i got the bearing the guy asked me if it was the bearing or if the belt itself so no its not the bearing im goin get a belt and try that. But what could cause the belt to squeak as its rubber and genuine landrover belt

Stretched belt? The belt on my Transit was making a knocking noise, looked perfect when I took it off, new belt fixed it:)

Lovely.il order a new belt monday. Mines got 1580 on so im sure thats the size of belt isnt it as they are 1580 and 1595 am sure

The size info/part number on the Transit belt didn't tie up with anything, new belt has different numbers.

re: belt noise

crazy as this sounds, try putting the belt on the other way arround

(i dont mean inside out - i mean so its running in the other direction)

i had to do some work once, put it all back together, and the belt was making a load of racket. took it off, rotated it, refitted, and quiet.

i doubt its the same with new belts, but, hey, its worth a go?
