Hi has anyone had any water dripping from their front sunroof handle .
I've got a 2001 td5 and whenever it rains water seems to get in somewhere and finds it's way to the sunroof handle, it also gets into the compartments under the sunvisors which can be annoying when giong around a bend cause it emptys onto my legs. Any help appreciated.Thanks.

are the drain holes blocked... there are 2 little holes in the sunroof and tubes that run down the a post to the bottom check there not blocked with a airline or coat hanger... just a thought.
 
The drain holes are inboard of the glass to sunroof seal so look at this first.Clean rhe rubber and then a thin smear of vasaline on the lip that touches the glass. It worked 4me.The bad news is that there has been probs reported with the sunroof to body seal and thats a head lining out job.Regards
 
Take off the covering with the handle and in built light. You should see the roof area behind them. My mate found factory drilled holes in his which we suspect where for different types of mechanisms...
 
Common problem. I do this every few months (and needs done again).

Open the sunroof, and with a watering can, gently dribble water so that it drains slowly into the tray below the sunroof aperture, it should run away and exit under the car behind the front wheels...if so your drains are ok.
Then (as others have said), clean all the surfaces, and gently smear vaseline around the rubber seals.
Should then be OK for another 6 months!

I'm going to check mine for this manufacturing holes near the sunroof winder this weekend, thanks for the tip.
 
We took my mates handle and surround off and looking directly a head of us, we could see small , factory drilled holes which we though might have been something to do with the area an electric motor would have been mounted if the sunroof was electric.
 
Thanks Dave I Actually Found Those Holes, I Was Refering To The Drainage Holes I Cant Seem To Find Them . Can You Help ? .thanks S12aun .
 
I have had that adn when I asked the garage, I was told.....

Considereing the age and mileage, its to be expected! Not very useful!
 
Probably the sunroof seal.Ive had the same thing .It took months to figure out.Tried drain holes,lube on seals then out of desperation tried lr for a new seal someting like 440 pounds cos they dont sell the seal seperaletly,so did a quick search on ebay and found the seal for about 22 pounds easy fit totally dry since.Hope this helps if you cant find it on ebay i can probably still get the contact for you.
 
Hi, my own experience has been with my 99 TD5, whereby I experienced leaks from both sunroofs. The leaks seemed to alternate which I believe was dependant on the angle the car was parked.

When the rear sunroof leaked, this generated a soaked headlining and a pool of water in my boot roller cover. When the front one leaked this led to water dripping from the sunroof handle as described above.

I do realise that the rubber seal can become dislodged by sticking to the glass and generally become grimy. Cleaning and re-seating these did not solve the problem.

I have also read many references to the drain tubes, becoming blocked or snapped off, but access of course is difficult because of the headlining.

After reading a post from a TDI owner who removed his headlining and resealed the sunroof units into the vehicles roof, (with some very good photographs), I started to suspect this was the root cause of my problem.

I eventually tried a very thin bead of clear silicon sealant which I ran round the edge of both frames, that is between the black sunroof frame and the car steel roof. I used the small toothpaste type tube for ease of handling which I bought from Halfords for about a fiver.

This seems to have worked, and after about six weeks and some recent heavy downpours, all seems to be dry.
