I need to drill the 2 plates on my front bumper, marked with the red circle on the pic below..

to fit these swivel points...

The plates are about 6mm thick…. I don't have a clue what to use or how Im going to drill 2 36mm on there..
any ideas?
would this be a job a garage would do??


btw, if anyone interested, been out on Salisbury Plain last night (not on mine though as Im finishing the left wing now)…but its getting back to normal, muddy and water everywhere.

ouch!!! expensive bits those there...

cant really justify 56quid to use it only once.... :( could buy the straight through pipe to replace the middle box for that! lol

dont know anyone with a plasma cutter either!

I asked in a local garage a few weeks back and they said they didnt have anything to cut a hole that big..
 
Get a cheap set of ebay as your only cutting 2 holes if wont matter if they dont last

In that case, mark out the circle with a bit of string and some chalk, then just use small drill bit to form the circle than whack it out with a hanner and file it down so it's circular. Job done, no money wasted....

so where does he get those small drills that can drill dozens of holes through thick metal without ever going blunt from ?

hole saws are more often called starrett cutters btw - plenty on ebay

eBay - Hole saw+starrett + 4x holesaw cutters drill bits tools, Similar items search
 
You are going to need a step drill, a good strong power drill, WD40 to cool and lubricate and plenty of time. And a pilot hole.

i doubt you'll find a cheap one of those that is able to cope with even one hole through that thickness - their use is more aimed at thin sheet

starrett cutter, nice slow speed drill and plenty of lub
