Any bright ideas as to how I can drain a full fuel tank, prior to removing and welding up the back end (leaving the fuel tank intact to re-install after the work)

Leave the filler cap off overnight.
You should find that some scrote has come along and syphoned it all out by morning.

Don't think they have a drain (made from plastic?)
Remove the sender unit & attack with a pump / syphon o_O

Rich.

I've drained it by removing the plastic sedimenter plug and letting the derv out into a bucket, took days with a full tank, remember to check the bucket occasionally. Might be quicker taking the sed right off?

Did mine with a pump siphon from Halfords, had to extend the pipe a bit, worked ok though.
The tank still had 10 lit in when I dropped it, made handling a pain but doable solo.
Its raving tight and easy to damage the filler neck.
I think JLR discovered the tank could be removed from underneath by accident, prob installed from the top before the body was put on!
