Could somebody tell me what the two drain plugs are for on this 2004 td5 defender 90?

Also there is a chip/hole in the bell housing by a drain plug, will this cause a problem?

I know sod all on fenders so any help is great thanks
Pic attatched ;)

Thank you :), being a wading hole shouldn't the plug be taken out?,(put in for wading) also it does occasionally do some wading so probs be best to get that small hole/chip sorted.

I thought the one at the very bottom, slightly on the right, was the wading plug. Then the other two (with the 1/2" square) were for timing.

Since you've got that little hole, you don't need to remove the wade plug. Just don't wade too much. Particularly deep.

Thanks Jabber that's what I thought, it's on my friends defender, and he's not to keen on wading after the last time (billing LR show mud run) after it took out the starter motor, alternator and filled the inside with a lot of mud.

I'll pass on the info thanks all :)
