Good evening all.

Are Dowty washers better at sealing than copper washers?

I have never had parables with Dowtys but i know you get copper washers in the gasket sets.

Wonder if its worth shaping the copper washers for dowtys.

Had to look them up!
They profess to be for greater sealing than copper or aluminium.
Can't say I've ever had an issue with copper or aluminium washers and I can re-anneal those and use again and again.
They'd have to be super cheap to make me change.

Guys, if a manufacturer states a Dowty washer over a conventional copper/alloy washer, there's a reason for it. This is normally due to system pressure, Dowty washers are very good at sealing at higher pressures. On our Landies, Dowty washers are used on the high pressure side of the power steering pumps...but not on engine/gearbox sumps as these are low pressure.

Not always true. Who the hell would be daft enough to use plastic dowels to locate a cylinder head?

Amen ....

If a Dowty will stop the leak, and it'll take the pain ( I.E. not really any use as an injector sealing washer  ), then carry on :)
