Hi all, I have a 2012 Range rover sport, 70.000 miles, yesterday i left my drive and within 20 seconds a suspension amber light came on and said "normal height available only", i carried on for about 5 miles and could feel the suspension wasn't adjusting/assisting around corners. i stopped and thought to cancel the light so i switched off the engine and then back on, i then attempted to adjust the ride height, (stupid stupid stupid). i think i set it to entry level but it ended up on its bump stops!!!! after panicking a drove home at 30 mph, it felt like the front end had dipped more than the rear but then the back really slumped, the ride was bloody bumpy but bouncy???

Arriving home i pulled the following codes:
C1131-92 Air supply, (was intermittent now permanent)?
C1A20-64 Pressure increases too slow when filling Reservoir (was permanent now intermittent)?
C1130-7a Air spring air supply (cleared and stayed clear)
U0421-68 ABS, (invalid data received)
Also each time i start the car the compressor runs for 11 seconds then cuts out, then the warning throws up on the dash.
I have done my best to use the 11 seconds to test all the joints etc with soapy water but im not convinced the system has pressure enough to test?? i cant hear any air escaping either.

what else could i do before a start ordering parts/new compressor?
can i test the compressor? or charge the system some how to check for leaks, Help me! sniff sniff

Had that
C1A20-64 Pressure increases too slow when filling Reservoir
And a few warnings on the dash (L322)
rebuild compressor, don’t forget to do the drier as well. Sounds like you asked it to go down, which it did. But then couldn’t pump up after.
You may have a leaky bag, but you need to get some air first.

I used a rebuild kit from X8R
https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/eas-compressor-here-we-go-c1a20-64.350371/
might help different position of compressor but same;)
Before ordering you need to check If you have the AMK “upgrade”.

good luck :)

Hi thanks for the info, i think im right in saying i have the AMK pump, it has a large silver cylinder then a smaller plastic tube next to it.

Don’t know the sport (disco in a skirt) setup looks like, or what the AMK looks like.
As I said the L322 has it in the boot under the spare, ours was not the AMK and looked like this Once out of it frame
CD68FEB9-CD8D-429F-BE40-7C89D667C3A6.jpeg

Be sure you get the right 1 as if you don’t have AMK and fit 1 then it needs a software upgrade too:D

as said earlier @gstuart will know the differences

Best get a few pics of it and post/search tinternet to confirm.

hiya and welcome the asylum, lol

I think urs being a 2012 will be a L320 with a separate body / chassis design , before it went to the L494 in 2013

if I may add early on, please , please , never get under the landy without axle stands

have u got access to a diagnostic reader that will display live data please

Reason I ask is u can then see what the psi the compressor is producing , also what temperature the motor is at

if the suspensions ecu doesn’t see a message of the correct pressure within 10 x seconds it will give a warning light and therefore shut the compressor off

so it can be twofold , a leaking strut, which allows the compressor to run, ecu doesn’t see pressure increasement signal, shuts down,

would hate for u to spend out on a new compressor or even new struts when it can be a bad connection within the circuit , having the live data is the best and then at least ur know 100% what the error is

Plus 1 , if u can get some piccies plse of the air compressor

also please try this , try and set the height to access, if U get a warning , turn it off then on again , see if the light goes out and allows the compressor to run without a warning light plse

if u can get the suspension to raise to normal height , pull fuse F26 in the engine bay , leave over night and see if it drops

hope that helps and plenty here to always help u

Ps, pic of AMK

also meant to ask and not wishing to sound rude , are u good at spannering and have multimeter etc

Plus Diagnostics that offers live data , as can then walk u through the whole suspension system if need be step by step

Plse don’t ask me how I know, lol

Hi Stuart,
Yep have axle stands and decent jacks, also a very handy mechanic (to a point) lol
Yes i have a very good diagnostic tool i borrowed, so will try to find the correct live data tomorrow.
Ive checked the battery with my multimeter 12.6 volts and 14 plus alternator output. (but other than that im a bit thick with electrics)
I have tried multiple times restarting the vehicle, each time the warning lights have canceled ....after starting the car asks me to select a suspension height, (i do) at the same time the compressor runs for aprox 11 seconds then it cuts off and the warning light for the suspension flashes up again the suspension never moves

I definatley have the AMK

Oh i did a hard restart also, no change, hope ive covered everything,

And thanks very much for your time

An update, earlier after the hard reset every thing no change, except 2 seconds after the compressor started it stopped for a second then ran for the 11 seconds, and stopped, but i put it down to maybe it being stood all night?

hiya

ur so welcome and more than happy to help when it’s appreciated, ur be surprised how many people ask for help without even a thank u , so indeed will try my best to help all I can as you’ve been very polite

virtually rebuilt the entire suspension system on my D3 , RRS are very similar , apart from urs having the hydraulic anti roll bars

many thks for the answers , don’t worry there’ll be plenty more, lol

what diagnostics do u have please , also handy ur ok doing the work urself, don’t worry plenty of us here to walk u through it

strange it asks u to select height on starting ,

so will wait to see what diagnostics u have plse and can then move forward step by step

I’ve got all the wiring diagrams , workshop manuals etc etc

thks

gary

I'm glad you signed that post off with your proper name... ;)

Hi Gary,
So this morning ive hooked up the Autel MaxiDiag MD808 Pro diagnostics tool, i scrolled to "RLM ride height level control Mod" loads of readings
i couldnt find a compressor PSi but it lists a Gallery pressure, which was 13.8 psi and when i activate the compressor it went to 40 psi, when the pump stopped (11 seconds) it dropped straight back to 13.8 psi, motor and compressor temp 4.98 v 4.88 v respectively. and also a compressor temp of 75 deg F?

hope this helps

There are other readings but to get the Gallery reading i needed to switch the car off and back on again to get the pump to activate and watch the gallery reading,

Not familiar with that one but indeed looks a decent bit of kit , use the gap iid myself , just trying to find a pdf manual for it to find the menu

Gallery pressure should be around 54 Psi and the compressor should be running around 258 Psi

gallery pressure is basically What the reservoir air tank holds, when the system is working correctly , after the engine is turned off it vents the excess pressure and hold that’s 54Psi in the tank

if that’s the motor temperature from cold indeed looks like it’s struggling

I should have some data I took, will see if I can find it for u as a comparison

U should be able to see the valve blocks and if there opening or not , just found one of my data recordings

F99F116A-756C-47C6-97DB-2126BA96526D.jpeg

it lists valve corners, ill go test again and watch these but at present all closed 100%

thks , found the pdf just in case

https://download.obdprice.com/pdf/md808 pro/Autel Maxidas Md808 Pro User Manual V1.2.pdf

Apologises , ref the data , 100% should mean there fully open , as with the live data if u open the screen, then start the car u should see if there opening or not and can work ur way through it using the live data

I did also write things down or printed them out as it will then begin to show u a picture so to speak of what the system is doing

as at the end of the day I’m thinking of ur pocket along with ur sanity, lol, as I know it can get frustrating but at least the diagnostics tool should aid u a lot of what’s happening

am still reading through the pdf, hope at the end of the day can pin the issue down

@LR220 France

meant to ask, have u got the workshop manual for ur suspension inc the wiring diagrams

also wondering if the landy won’t play ball to allow u enough time to test the system is removing the compressor , putting it onto a bench, with a pressure gauge and 12 Vdc supply will then at least tell u 100% what pressure it’s producing

Then , u can also test ur reservoir tank , either by vacuum gauge or pressure

as doing that will allow u to move on step by step and proving one way or another if items are good or bad
