OK not quite, but the rear passenger door check link seems to have come away inside the B pillar and is now hanging free make shutting the door difficult (this is what happens when the mrs uses it...)

It's bloody freezin so have given up trying to fix it - does anyone know how they are fixed inside the pillar and is it likely to be a replacement part?
 
hi mate do you mean the door stay that stops the door opening to much? inside the pillar it has broken away? and when you try and shut it it is really hard and sounds horrible?

Yes in a nut shell - the check strap or stay is now loose inside the B pillar of the door.

Removing the trim I should be able to see whats happened (when it warms up) - wondering if this is a welded piece or screw in?

Door is rarely used and wonder if its seized in the cold and put too much pressure when open/closed and forced it off the pillar.
 
if its anything like mine I took the trim off n that to look the other day, after having if since oct. it does need welding like. but i need to look in the door to see if the problem started in there and it broke at the weakest point being the welds in the pillar.

Bummer - off to my local machanic then to sort, was hoping a screw in.

As you say it might be the weakest point. Both my back doors were very stiff when I first got it 3 yrs ago, I've tried spraying/oiling and using as much as possible to free them up but this is the least used by far.

yeah i was the same, i oiled them etc and then thought it was far to stiff to be lacking oil. i took it the garage the other day for them to look at and they said the other end of the stay (in the door) is just two screws to take out but told me to leave it in so they can open the door and it pulls tight on the pillar so they can weld it. think ill replace the stay tho, just for good measure. :D

Indeed - I doubt they're very expensive I might do both rear doors to avoid this happening again.

This is what happens when the misses has it for a few weeks...it's not so long ago the door stay broke off her car. She rang in a panic to tell me someone had gone into the wing - only to find out when I took it to the panel shop the stay had snapped and the front door had bent the wing!

I have the same problem. The strap fixing has broken off the body pillar.
How do you get the trim off the inside of the pillar in order to see what is happening?
