looking for some inspiration here, the pillar that the door striker attaches to on the driver door is loose at the top.
Not dramatically, but enough that the door needs a good slam to close it. With the door open a good hard push on the pillar and I can see it flex away from the upper part of the body a few milimeters.

Can't see any obvious damage or corrosion, any ideas on how to stop this flexing?

Hopefully the description makes sense :)
 
Sorry forgot to mention, the door seal is split where the pillar moves but I had assumed that the seal isn't what would normally stop it from moving

Or is that assumption wrong?
 
There isn't a pillar so I think you need some more details i:e what vehicle it is might help??
 
Defender 90, sorry i'm not sure exactly the name of the panel or pillar.

its the panel that the door striker attaches to and the movement is at the top where the lower part of the body meets the upper part or the body.

Does that help?

Its the body tub. their is a stiffener plate their. check that it hasn't been removed or is loose.
 
Hi Pikey, is that the plate behind the panel and attaches to the rear tub?

Thats definitely there and seems secure but can't be sure its not been off and not reatached properly at some point

Cheers for the replies, I'll try and get a photo tomorrow which might explain it better.

Marmaduke - yeah that's the panel and all parts seem to be present and correct including the bracket support.
 
I can't see how that can be very loose. It's spot welded together. My support brackets are off at the moment and the strike plate is still very firm and doesn't move very much.
The pictures will be useful.
 
Hi chaps,

hopefully the photo makes more sense, where my hand is the door seal is split so i know that needs replacing. Its split where the bottom half of the body meets the upper part of the body (hope this is the correct description). If i push on the panel just below the split the panel moves slightly inward towards the drivers seat.

So basically when the drivers door is shut the panel will bounce slightly.

does that make anymore sense?

its rock solid on the other side but that doesn't have a split seal, surely its not just the door seal stopping it....

No it's not the door seal that holds it in place. I would pull the bottom section of the door seal off and check the spot welds it covers.
 
the side and the tub are 2 seperate panels check that the bolts holding them together are secure. and that the tub capping isn't rotted thru.
