My door skins are looking pretty crispy and one has a decent crack along the bottom of the ally. After taking the door cards off, the frames appear to be ok nothing nasty. I have seen that you can change the skins without the frames which would be great, £80 a door instead of £400 :). Although can this be done at home easily or is it a specialist job? Anyone here done this and would care to share their experiences?

Thanks :)

Tis a fairly simple jobs the difficult bit is geting the fold neat along the edge of the door. A better IMHO solution is the new Galvanised door skins only £90 each.. and stronger than the ally ones.

Yeah I saw those thanks and would get them instead, anyone else care to share their experiences with this? What's the best way to get the fold on the frame right?

Hammer and dolly. I did quite a lot of door skins when I was a panel beater and its just a case of taking your time and folding the lip over in stages so you don't get a 50p effect on the edges

From your experience, how much would this cost approx to have done at a body shop? (just changing the skins not the paint) Thanks.

From what I remember (but it was about 10 years ago) I think we got 3 hours to strip skin and build the door (not including paint) this is an average as thatcham gave different times for different cars. So it depends on what the garage charges per hour which varies massively

Ok thanks anyway, I will make some calls over the coming weeks and base my decision on the quotes I get :D
