1985 90 Truck Cab with single piece lift-up handle doors.

I'm in a bit of a quandary over my doors. Just getting to the stage of requiring doors to go on after 3 years

I have a spare set of push-button ones as well. Both sets are similar condition (that means pretty @iss poor tbh). I've found out today that replacement door latches for the L.U. handle doors are over £200 each! Wowzers! So I will ne trying to breath life back into the old ones but will need to replace lock barrels as well. The glass is thicker on the L.U.H doors...will getting seals, channel trim be a PITA? And central locking? I guess it's still do-able on those type?

If the L.U.H doors look to be too much hassle, I'll go with the push-button although it won't be in keeping with the age of the vehicle but getting parts will be a lot easier and cheaper plus there seems to be a lot more after-market alloy stuff for the newer type door.

What's the forum's vote on this one?

It is no problem to use series doors on a Ninety. So long as you can live with the sliding windows.

I think you need to look around for the latches, they should be available much cheaper.

When I did a lot of work on my Ninety, I found second hand doors, and went to quite a lot of trouble doing them up. If I was going to do it again, I would just get series doors.

They're pretty grim. I might bite the bullet and go for new (LuH) frame/skin assy from SP4x4 and build them back up, then at a later date, rebuild the exisitng ones and flog them on.

Does anyone know how to remove the lock barrels from the LuH door latches?

Kind of! I have LuH on a newly purchased 1985 90. All locks busted and there appear to be a couple of versions. I needed MUC4146, have a screw hole on the end of the barrel to secure; later versions (MTC6504) both some LuH and PB, the barrels are longer and have a pin to depress to secure.
I posted a bit about this https://www.landyzone.co.uk/posts/4069442/ and there are a couple of threads on door strip down. It's fiddly but not difficult!

This is the lock that fitted my LuH doors.

Right. I'm still mystified how I can release the lock barrel from the door latch! I need to get the door handle/lever out as well to make it look like new again.

I've attached some photos of one of the latches. Does anyone have any idea how I disassemble the barrel & handle?

Looks like a bit like mine but I left the lock assembly in the door.

Third picture in your post showing the back of the lock...I was advised to bend back the metal tabs on either side of the hex-head screw and unscrew it...then wiggle the lock about and it should pull out with they key. It didn't work for me and I was advised to drill it out. I haven't done it yet as the truck is with a mechanic for some fettling.

Or as posted by disco mania there might be a pin to depress....

I do wonder if I will need to remove the lock from the door to fix it.

Keep posting, I'll do the same once I get the truck back...maybe between us we'll sort it!

I think you might be right about the hex hd bolt as I've just had the new barrels delivered today and at the opposing end to the key slot is a female thread. So I will try and bend the tabs back and undo it and see what gives.

Lift up handle doors are the bomb! I had a similar issue but worth the hassle

Yes, also interested to know this please!

I have managed to get the lock barrel out. As Capo suggested, I bent the tabs down on the nut, undid it and removed along with a sub-assy part and then pushed the barrel back through; it literally dropped out.
So that was good.
What isn't so good is how the hell do I now release the door handle?

Not sure what you mean by 'release the door handle'; do you want to take the handle off or is it stuck?

The parts book isn't that clear but it looks like the handle is part of or surrounds the hole into which the lock barrel goes. Don't know how it's secured, maybe the whole lock assembly needs opening up to remove the handle (just speculating).

Yes I want to get the door handles off to clean them up and respray. Also they're a bit of a slack fit when in place so if I can line them with a ptfe bush or similar to tighten them up that would be good.

As you say, it looks like I may have to open up the assembly to get them out.

Hello Karls if you are about....how did you manage? No joy here, tried jamming a screwdriver into the lock and pulling, same from the inside pushing with a hammer but the barrel won't come out of the housing. Drilled it next through the keyhole and the barrel half shattered and this bit fell out - see pic 1-3 - but the rest is still stuck in the housing.

I then undid the whole lock/handle assembly and wriggled it out of the door, but again couldn't remove the barrel remains; it's almost as if it's bonded to the housing - pic 4-5.

Put it back together for now but there's now a hole - pic 6-7 - where the barrel was.

So does anyone have any ideas how to get the rest out? Bigger drill bit? Heat?

What with the back door lock snafu'd i'm getting concerned about unauthorised access!

Re the door handle, it seems to be part of the whole assembly which doesn't look openable.

Read somewhere tidying up the handle using large bore shrink wrap tube...

You need a bigger drill!
I'm sure that I said that on an identical post a short while ago ( about 3/4 hour) !!

You did! Same question posted in thread 'Early 90 Door lock barrel replacement problem' (also posted on LRUK). Thanks for the advice.
