Yes the motor is in the mirror assembley and the glass has to be removed to get access to it.
Have you tried a quick spray of WD40 behind the class, then while pressing the corner of the class powering the mirror in the direction you want it to go, May get things working.
I hardly use my mirror control so my mirror sticks (don't use it, lose it) but works for a few months after a spray of WD.

I had to buy a new, complete mirror housing as some twerp in a transit smashed mine while doing about 40. (summer's day, window down, great. Picking bits of mirror out of my face for the next couple of days.)

Anyway, i digress. Yeah, the motor is inside the housing. Either take the glass out or undo the two bolts from inside your driver's door. I took my doorcard out to get the black triangle out but found that with a bit of jiggling you wouldn't need to do this really. If yours is knackered I can send you the motor as I kept it as it was undamaged. Still worked fine before I swapped it out, just the plastic outer casing of the wing mirror that was broken. PM me if you need it, I'll post it out to you.

Cheers, Paul.
