I recently got a new style ignition and lock set at a price I couldn't refuse, however it only came with 2 lock barrels. Can I buy a 3rd for the rear door to match the others so I can use the same key for everything?

If it's anything like mine (2006 model Defender) the rear door has a different shaped barrel - much shorter. So it has a thing like a little filing cabinet key rather than one of those long blade keys as used for the front doors and ignition.

That can't be right. If you look on ebay you will find sets that have barrels for all 3 doors and they all open with the same key?

Honestly, my rear door just has a little tiddler like this
Land Rover Defender 90 & 110 Rear Safari Door Lock Barrel & Keys - Bearmach Part | eBay

I did wonder when I replaced it, but a bit of judicious matching up of VIN numbers and part numbers suggested that this was the right sort of thing for my door and it did indeed fit. It's different from the ignition and front door barrels. Your model may of course be different, but I just threw this into the mix because it's worth checking.

My back door (which I bought separately to the rest of the landy, so not a clue what year its from ) takes the same lock barrels as the rest of the doors. I bought a set off ebay and replace the front doors plus rear door.

Quite interested that a kit is available of the ignition key that fits the doors too....Seems it could be possible to change fuel cap (with a bit more effort.) Would be brilliant to only need one key, rather than 3 (plus one more for steering lock...)

Maybe you are right Brown. Looking at ebay I can only see those little short barrels for rear door. But in that case why are they providing kits with 3 identical looking barrels? It would be helpful if others could chime in on this. I'm confused..

So does your back door accommodate a standard long lock barrel?

Ok. I've just read an article over on lr4x4 that shows you can either modify an earlier rear door handle to accommodate the larger barrel, or you can buy a later style rear door handle that accommodates it out the box..

1 key for all doors :)
