my Disco II is now 24 years old, has had it´s repairs, but I don´t know any more beautiful 4wheel drive so I keep it. After my last garage visit the key with it´s two pushbuttons came back almost ruined. I always explain carefully how NOT to brainlessly push hard on the buttons, but to mechanics that seams to fall on deaf ears. so this time the car came back with me only with difficulty being able to open, close or deactivate the little red light. I need a new key - not a knew housing, I have that, but a new key (mother board). To WHOM do I apply. The car was first sold in Germany from where I bought it in 2006. Would I apply to Land Rover in Britain ? Anybody had to apply for a new key (The electronic part, not the barbed tail) ever ? Thank you.

It sounds like one or more of the microswitches have been damaged, or do you know more?
Pictures might help.
But if that is the case you can buy new cases/housings with new batts and new microswitches. I got mine from ebay and they are fine.

Hello, Good Morning,
thank you for such a fast reply. the damage is neither in the casing nor in the batteries but most likely in/on the "green" board on which all the little resistances and stuff is soldered. I suspect that one can not simply buy a new one since there must be a code embedded, otherwise one key opens all cars. So I hope there is a central Land Rover archive where I might apply for a new key (board). Buy the way, would anybody know if I can DEACTIVATE the whole electronic key and simply use the key barb - the mechanical part of the key - to open/close the door and start the car???? Less electronic, less problems.

No, I don´t know what you mean. You have my username and I am a member of Landyzone. So don´t worry at all not to answer "cos" I do not need to know, but want to know. Have a nice day.

I think there are cheaper ways of getting a new key coded to your vehicle than conacting Land Rover for one!
I have never had to do it, but keep on googling and reading on here, it'll pop up.

Thanks Stanleysteamer. I try to get a coded key through some other source- Perhaps nowadays in an electronic key shop they might be able to help. I did resolder the "open" pad on the component board (one of the two connections was loose) and now it works fine, but it would still be nice to have a completely new board.
