Hello all. Recently bought my first 51 plate freelander. My drivers side rear passenger door handle will not operate from the outside but will on the inside. Driving me mental. Anyone know a fix???

Thanks in advance.
Jay

Strip the door and replace the handle unlock rod that has possible become detached.

Yes and also a plastic membrane covering the the door too. Does the fob key and the car keys trigger all the doors to open?

Mine has been like this since I got it 5 years ago. The rear passenger side door won't open using the outside handle probably about 20% of the time - the remaining 80% it works perfectly. So nothing's 'broken' on mine, but obviously something's out of alignment or stretched (etc). The kids have found though that if the door won't open, they can push on it and then often it will work!

I thought it would be an mot fail if they can't be opened??

Well either its not part of the WOF here, or its worked every time the tester has opened the door - and its tested every 6 months here.
Hopefully I can get away with it too. Still want to fix it though. Just need a nice dry day. Fingers crossed.

Hi all, update on door lock, stripped back the door card, removed the membrane, link rod is still there (in situ) door will open from inside, not outside, the fob works with no issues on all other doors. If I get in the car (card and membrane free) I can open the door using a crooked hand, pushing down on the rod (as if I'm outside) it will open, been told it's the locking motor that has died, will need to be replaced, is this true or am I missing something else?

I've just looked back over this thread and there's been no mention of the central locking motor. I'm sure there was - but it must have been on another thread. It got me thinking... we hardly ever lock our car, eg its not locked when its on our drive, but we do lock it when we're out and about. I'm wondering if my problem is the CL motor. I've never put 2 and 2 together because the back doors are not used as often as the front and it may be the first time the back door is used after its been locked - which may be a number of days later. I'll check it out on mine.

I wonder if that's the problem with yours?

Well I'm gutted, you didn't believe me in that other thread:(
Anyway, got the Haynes manual out and checked, also asked the wife who has a better memory than me. You locking motor is knackered.
I repeat its buggered. Sorry mate no other answer as its all linked to the motor.
Only other advice is don't buy a second hand motor, they don't last. Get a new one.
I shall now go and stand in the corner and sulk:rolleyes:

Thought it was you @Skinny Mike - see posts are read... and sometimes I can even remember them 5 minutes later :)

Sorry Mike my intention was not to upset you. Don't have much money at the moment, simply putting it out there in case someone had any other ideas than spending money on it. It's just driving me bloody mad!!
Please accept my apologies and come out of the corner and the dark. It's cold over there.

Its OK. I've had to put about 5 motors on my Freelander, and its a 3 door!! So I learnt the hard way about buying 2nd hand lock motors.
Somebody did post a couple of months back that there was a repair kit available on the bay of E, but I've never tracked them down. Worth a look if you are struggling for pennies at the moment, we've all been there:rolleyes:
