After only a short time of fantastic ownership my 2002 4.6 became problematic. It would randomly chuck all the water out of the header tank mainly after a run. Now i spoke to a few "experts" of my woes all replied it's your block mate the liners have slipped! Having spent many an hour pouring over the info on here i all ready suspected so. A brand new short engine was purchased i rebuilt the heads pulled the old motor and refitted the new one all in all i recon i spent 60-70 hours doing the job myself. The new motor fired up perfectly and sounded beautiful made sure all the air was out of the cooling system and took the car for a drive nice 50 miles Oh joy i thought the car is fixed!!!!!
Wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
100m from home air con goes off? and smell LPG then steam pull on drive switch off motor pop bonnet a F**kin great volcano from the header tank. at this point all lengths of rope where removed from reach. thinking maybe a airlock i refill the system run with no rad cap all seems great! refit cap start motor leave to idle switch to gas F*** me another volcano and smell LPG!. Next i remove the coolant pipes from the vaporizer and run the car on petrol amazingly no volcano! driven on petrol for another 30 miles no problem !
Anybody want a 4.6 short engine (right price of course ) LOL
did i spend £2500 for the price of a LPG part?

replacing the vaporizer on Monday apparently not an uncommon problem shame the experts didn't know this even tho i mentioned the LPG. Also just because these cars have common problems does not always mean your fault is one of them i think my lesson has been well and truly learnt!

Diesel ! - you must be kidding ! - have you seen the price of that stuff ! :D

Its only about 7p more expensive here that petrol - with LPG almost at 70p a litre it wont be long before the LPG people are paying just as much!

Tis scary times we're living in :D

Whats diesel up your way, I filled up the other day at an Esso station as I was really running on fumes (usually always fill with BP) and I paid 127.9.

It was £137.9 last time I looked but probably more by now !
Petrol is about 13p a litre cheaper

What are you on about 70p, I filled up yesterday at my normal gas supplier, 49.4p per litre.

I'll be keeping the gas thank you very much and the refinement of a pertol engine, you can forkout for doozel if you want. :D

LPG around here is about 52p with my car doing 15mpg that's an equivalent of 30 mpg £ for £ i bet your diesel struggles to do that :)

bloody hell wills !!!!!!!!! , i would be seriously ****ed off paying more than 0.45p for lpg its cheap as chips still round here in bolton .
rick.

Isn't the price of LPG a bit off topic :)
What i actually wanted was some sympathy for spending a great deal of money in error?

Well this is why it stuck in my mind as I nearly drove into the car in front having a double look, the price for the LPG at the station I was going past read 69.9/litre.

Price of LPG round here at most places is around the mid-high 50's. I was just taking the one example and being a bit extreme, however, fuel pirces seem to be rising all the time and the BP garage across the other side of town that dispenses gas always seems to be putting their prices up and up and up.

same here will tbh but not anywhere near that price , overall i think its the oil companies just being greedy mate after all lpg is a waste product from petrol production and was mostly disposed of by burning off .

yer really think so?

a short snippet of factual information follows after this short interlude......................................

LPG is synthesised by refining petroleum or 'wet' natural gas; it was first produced in 1910 by Dr. Walter Snelling, and the first commercial products appeared in 1912. It currently provides about 3% of the energy consumed.

here's a bit more just to tease yer........

Propane is an LP-gas (liquefied petroleum). Although the propane gas industry is quite young, LP-gases were observed early in man’s history. As for back as 2000 B.C. for example, man used oil and gas for medical and heating purposes.

The LP-gas industry had its beginnings in the early 20th century. Surprisingly, the discovery of LP gas was due to problems with the refining and storage of gasoline. In the early 1900’s, gasoline would quickly evaporate or “weather away” while in storage.
