Can I see a VW Corrado in the background? I used to have one of them back in the day, amazing car, mine was a G60.

Great project thread by the way.

That's Dan's Corrado - one of the reasons I need to get all my rubbish out of the way...

The chassis was completely knackered at back and front but the middle bit was surprisingly sound. It's a legal requirement to destroy the old chassis if doing a like for like swap. Seems a shame but there you go.

just wondering if this one is a long way for being mot ready and whether it would be quicker to finish this one than do the chassis swap on the 88?

I'm guessing not as you would probably already have considered this.

Aye, that was originally the plan but the 109 needs a gearbox rebuild and the bulkhead welding up then building up all the electrics. The SWB is in good running order apart from the chassis so hopefully it _should_ be a case of just removing big parts i.e. tub, chassis, engine + gearbox, axles and swapping them over as big units. The 109 is completely in bits and I'm aiming to get that one looking nice. I'll be keeping the SWB looking like a ****-tip in the hope that it won't get nicked!

Well, I've not done much on this for the past year. I got distracted by the chassis swap last year and not got back to it since. The gearbox is still in bits in a box waiting for me to work out what to put back and what to replace or whether to just get another.

I hardly get a chance to go up to the garage and when I do I seem to end up messing with the other SWB one. Just had the head off and retimed the cams - unnecessarily as it turned out, replaced radiator which was gunked up and starting to look tired with a Craddocks heavy duty one - which looks worse than the old one!

One thing I am sort of stuck on: I bought some RM parabolics for this and am having trouble getting the rear shocks on. the angle seems all wrong and however I pop them through the eyes in the axles the threaded ends snag on the springs. Is this because the chassis is bare and there's no weight on the springs or is there something up?

I'll try and remember to get some photos over the next week...

I actually got a chance to spend an afternoon in the workshop this week and started stripping down the main box. It actually doesn't look too bad inside except for the 3rd/4th synchro unit which has lost its clips and all the teeth are well worn. Not sure about the gear in the picture it looks to have straight dogs and to my eyes they look ok but I'm not sure whether to replace it. I got stuck on the mainshaft because my circlip pliers were't up to the job...

What's the drill with all the bearings, replace on sight or leave well alone if they're in good nick?
