Irrespective of your point of view... even if there is no "fully comp" cover... I am sure that the insurer is obliged to offer the minimum cover (3rd party only)

However, as we all know.. the insurance industry is a law unto itself!

I think you're right here....it's much more difficult for them to avoid paying out to 3rd parties.

Unroadworthy vehicle for example will effectively turn a fully comp cover into 3rd party only in the event of a claim

I'm sure when I was getting quotes some of them used the phrase "covered on all paved byways" or something to that effect. Make sure to look out for anything like that!

What do you freelance at?

Well at the moment I'm effictively working as a contactor designing plastic model kits but in the evenings I do resin casting production for other companies. It's a good way to earn a little extra each month :).

My insurance covers me but then I asked for it, mine also covers me on private off road courses as long as its not for hire or competition use.

I would expect that they don't understand a greenlane and assumed its off roading. I got pulled by the police a while back and he got excited as I said we were going greenlaning, he asked if the farmers knew I was tearing up their fields, he had no idea what green laning was or that byways even existed!!

The simple fact is, if you drive on a greenlane without a valid insurance policy, you are breaking the law plain & simple. If your insurance company specifically excludes greenlane use from your policy, and you drive on one knowing that you are not covered by any insurance policy, you are breaking the law. Although the chances that plod will bother checking all the exclusions on you policy is remote, if you have an accident that injures any 3rd party, or causes damage to property, then you could quite easily find yourself in a whole load of ****.

As a byway is a public right of way for vehicular traffic, why should you ask your ins co?

Do you ask if you are covered for driving the M5, or the A1 before you set off?

wot he sed. ask for an exhaustive list of wot road are covered or not. Many companies wont cover the nurburgring and specifically state it in theyre policy.

Well I just spoke to them as they called me back to tell me my mods are ok. I explained to them that the "green lanes" I had mentioned are public highways and they said that's ok. However if I were to go properly off road then I wouldn't be covered.

Seems fair enough, I'm probably going to accept the policy.

wrong

I cared enough to troll

get it right ;)

That's pretty normal! Argued with mine about it but insurance companies are all scum! I made it clear I wanted cover to be in show grounds etc but they seem to class that a offroading????? bunch of inbred halfwits!!!

Yep, motherless feckers the lot of them. Well at least it seems I can get a bit muddy and still be covered. Seeing as how I dodn't have to pay a lump sum those tyres and VCU are creeping ever closer ;).

If you are not covered while the vehicle is ot on a public highway, then there must be a gray area when it comes to parking on your own private land! Once again... I draw your attention the the insurance company's obligation to provide the minimum insurance required by law etc etc

Just wasted 5 mins of my life reading about 'insure the box'.

It looks lame.

S

Yeh it is lame. However it's also the cheapest quote I had by a hundred quid. Hopefully I'll have enough money laid by next year so I can get a policy where the feckers can't spy on me.

In my fooking dreams.

I'm with highways insurance and I am covered off road, only restriction is I'm Limited to 2 people when off roading...
