Pulled my Disco 2 4.0 V8 engine to do a few bits of upkeep the last owner ignored, rear main seal, valley gaskets rocker cover gaskets, timing cover seal, check oil pump etc etc and on cleaning around the block I found this just below the head gaskets its at the rear of the heads where I know the cololant runs internally there was some crumbly white/bluish deposit I am hoping against hope its not what I think it is am surprised its on both heads but is this a leaking albeit weeping head gasket...there isnt any real liquid or coolant seeping. pics are a bit smaller than I would like but seemed to be the max size permitted...

Appreciate the collective wisdom...

Does seem possible its a very slight head gasket weep, although the piccys are a bit small, might be best keeping an eye on the motors coolant level, and running temp, Head gaskets are not to bad a job to do especially with your motor out though, What miles is she on?

Its done 170K, it doesnt look like its currrently leaking, but clearly it was, it had std green glycol coolant rather than red organic and it didnt seem like any sealer had been added to the cooloant but its possible. I have an ARP head stud kit for this motor and given I am about to do the valley gasket and rocker covers I guess I should remove the heads check for any warping and if all ok replace with new the arp studs I have some 7/16 chasers to ensure the bolt holes are clean I dont want to find I have a bigger problem after replacing the head gasket than I strated with and so far I am not holding back on preventative maintenance i.e all new coolant hoses, radiator, viscous fan water pump, temp monitor etc I dont want to have to remove the motor for a while for something I did not properly attend to now.
