So over the last 2 weekends my son in law and I have changed the timing chain and all the tensioners and guides. Long hours but achievement was massive after she fired up first turn of the key and sang like a Swiss watch. No oil leaks no water leaks and so the world was a good place and harmony was abound. Quick trip of about 3 miles to the garage and no issues. All checks done and we’re home dry ?? . This afternoon we go out for a longer drive and after a bout 10 miles I can smell oil burning and so pull over. Smoke and smell all over the engine bay and a leak from the left bank. Managed to get it home and the rocker cover gasket is dripping oil. So it would seem that the pvc filter on the back of the engine has now said fcuk you have some of this and so it’s back to bloody square one. Am I the only one who is constantly fighting an L322 or is anyone else sharing the pain !!!!

Run the engine and loosen the oil filler cap, if it tries to jump off with ambition your valve would be the next place to look,. If it remains in place and lightly jiggles then it's possibly a duff/trapped gasket.. ;)
You say "range rover" !
We say "get the Fûck on with it baby" :p;)

Why do they spec these so well!!
Heated screen / so you can see the AA man arrive in winter !
Heated seats / well who wants a cold arse while your waiting for him !
Sat nav/ why when it breaks down your only 5 miles from home and you know this area like the back of your hand!
Large fuel tank / should be a 20 litre tank cos it can never do more than 15 miles before it breaks down !
Auto wipers sensor / turn the bloody thing inside and it can then pick sense the tears you always shed!
Headlight delay / well that’s for when you set fire to the bloody thing at least you can see your way through the woods before it blows up and gives you a fighting chance of not taking you with it!
Low access mode/ this is for when your begging for the fecking thing to please start and means you haven’t got so far to climb back in !!
And I still love the little **** !!!!

Oh your soooooooo smitten :p

There are places on the cam cover and head surface you have to smear with some RTV to prevent leaking..

Have used rvt on it but will just check the seal again and see if the oil cap is trying to escape for victory tomorrow!!

Ok so investigated the rock cover this morning and the left bank was full of oil. Must have been an inch or at least a ltr of oil in the rocker cover. Drained out cleaned out and removed. Took off the gaskets and the middle gasket had been nicked and also when held up against the old one was about 2 mm longer and so would not sit fully in the seat. Britpart again !!! So cleaned up old seal put in ( only changes them both a month ago and run up the roars with the Plastic covers off. Seems to have cured it and so now just burning off the residue which is all over the exhaust manifold !!!

Yes well happy with the results as she has never been as quiet but would suggest to anyone wanting to do it to purchase the crank tool and the proper timing kit to hold it all in place !!

I was lucky enuff for saint to lend me his locking tool kit when I helped my mate do a full engine out and rebuild....some pics on here some where. New bottom end heads skimmed , chains guides water pump erm loads more.

Have since added a locking tool to my must buy kit.

Would add on to your list a inch ratchet and prize bar and a 6 foot scaffold pipe to crack the crankshaft bolt. We managed to break 2 snap on bars !!!!!

Yep, I have a short length of scaffold pole for bastard bolts.

The Snap-on stuff was 3/4"?
