Hi Gents and ladies of course,

I was just reading a ad on Ebay for a 306DT engine. It says it came from a Jag XF 3.0 diesel. it says its a direct fir for the Disco 4 SDV6.
Obviously i reckon you would need to strip the engine, as the accessories would be different but i would of thought the LR4 produced a bit more power does it not.? Also does it bolt straight onto the LR transmission
Just some thoughts really. As mine has the dreaded snapped crank and sourcing an engine has been harder than finding a kg of rocking horse poo.

Cheers

Best to ask on the D3/4 forum, but from what Ive read yes the jag engine is the way to go, people have also put the 3.0 into 2.7 D3 obviously as you say using all the accessories from the existing engine.
It might be better to buy a complete acc damaged jag and strip yourself? plus if you have the space you could break the rest of the car to recover some of the money.

Yes. They fit. We've done it.
You need to swap all the bits & bobs over. We had an issue with one of the turbo's if I remember correctly. The jag had one turbo & the D4 had two.

There is sum internal difference, my Jag XE-S engine is fitted in the RR I believe, but then modified by LR to deal with the perceived off-road conditions and that a 4x4 will be used in, larger sump and baffled for example, plus a different oil pump I believe to deal keeping oil circulating in the engine with the extreme angles that can be found off-road.
I suspect there other differences to be found why would you want a 155mph engine in a Land Rover :D

Hi, thanks for the replies.
Rick glad to hear you have done one, as long as the block is the same it may be a goer.
the reason i am doing this the total lack of secondhand engines and the cost to rebuild is South Australia is through the roof, so a engine swap seems to be the way forward. The oil capacity on e XF is 6.5l and the LR4 is 6.7l so there is a little bit extra.thus the sump must be different.
I will probably start looking for a salvage xf and start the process. the disco has been off the road since Christmas eve so will be good to start
Rick was the gearbox connections the same? can you remember?
Thanks

As far as I remember, we stripped both engines down to the block. Blocks are exactly the same. We had to swap over every bolt on part.
Bell housing is the same & I'm pretty certain the gearbox is the same as well.
It took two unrushed days. There was no memorable problems at all.

Thanks Rick, i reckon XF could be the way to go at least it gives me another option. Thanks for your help.

Here in the UK, it's a common swap from LR V6 to Jag V6 in D3 and increasingly D4s too. As said, the blocks, heads are identical. All ancillary components need swapping over, including the sump, baffles and pickup pipe.
