Just bought a 2004 Discovery Landmark auto. Would anybody know if this has a cat downpipe? Be nice not to lie down in the slush (plus I'm not really sure what I'd be looking for).

Hi Bill, just finished doing my de-catt and took her for a test drive - noticeable improvement.

Smoother, more lively, less heavy feeling.

I'm expecting improved mpg also as I'm backing off more.

£60 is about the best price I've seen, from a couple of suppliers: Vanquish and MM4x4.

This question has made me wonder if mine has its also 2004 but its a td5 as Mr Bill didn't say what type of engine his is would someone tell me if disels do have a cat...thanks

I think I'm right in saying that all TD5's from about 2001 have them. My 2002 definitely had one.

Easy enough to check, get underneath just behind the front wheels, find the exhaust pipe and trace it forwards and you will come across (or not if it's already been removed!!) a large cylindrical section about 9" to a foot long - this is the cat.

To change it you will need a De-Catt downpipe, cost from £60 stainless steel. Easy to fit, takes about 1 hr.

thanks for that, I have had a look and there is section like you say about a foot long.
I may as well ask what are the benifits from removing it and will it pass an mot without one...thanks

The benefits for replacing the catted downpipe with a non-cat are better engine breathing resulting in:

1. More responsive vehicle;

2. More mpg;

The mot only checks the smoke from the exhaust and with it breathing better is more likely to be cleaner exhaust. NO mot issues at all.
