Hi all.

Since I have had the Landy, I always use the drive setting for all types of trips, except when reversing of course.

Does anyone use the '4' setting? What are the advantages if any?

Thanks guys.

i have accidently put it in 4th insted of drive and it revs a bit higher before going into another gear just like sports mode

I do...handbook says best to use 4 on windy roads and stop start town stuff.

it basically only uses the four gears so is a bit quicker to change up/down depending on how you're driving.

with the cold weather coming up just remember that the ecu for the gearbox limits the output from the box until the gearbox oil has warmed up a bit so it will feel sluggish for the first couple of miles ;)

D allows all forward gears to be selected. 4 only allows 1, 2, 3 or 4 to be selected. It doesn’t alter the change pattern or the revs it needs before changing gear. Sport mode does that, by holding gears longer so revs increase more before changing up, which gives betterer acceleration. 4 is suggested on winding roads as it won’t let the auto select 5th (at 40mph for v6) when it starts to relax at steady speeds. Hence you don’t get continuous changes 5 - 4 - 5 as you slow before a corner then speed up afterwards. I never bother with 4 but have selected it by mistake occasionally. It's down to personal choice.
