If you use genuine OEM parts there should be no problem. You cannot maintain a £50,000 car for peanuts. Problem is that these days most of the OEM parts will be made in the same factory as the pattern ones and may get sort of mixed up a little. Since the far east got involved with pattern and OEM part manufacture things have gone down hill at a very rapid rate.

Agree
:p
I always use genuine parts, but who are the stealers buying from?

The dealers buy supposed genuine parts from Land Rover. But who do Land Rover buy from. Land Rover get bits made in China/India and elsewhere to a quality standard supposedly. But the factory that makes them has a shadow across the road that makes the same parts from inferior materials. You really don't know these days which is which, that is the problem. That is why there are more counterfeit Nike and Reebok trainers in the shops than genuine ones. There was an enormous problem in the nineties of fake aircraft components mainly fasteners. But brake components were also found amongst other things.

remind me not to fly in anything you built then wammy :mil3:ha :D:D:D i would probably end up like this
but im not ready to go just yet wammy !!!!!!! oh did you work at wharton ????? ;);););) thanks wammy:crazy_driver:MOZZ

Personally, I hate the outside looks of the new Rangies the interiors are plastic looking, they are now just posh over priced road going SUV, not dual purpose vehicles, the only redeeming fact is that the they tow like a dream with the diesel V8 on the road..off road well this picture says it all, really.

There's some nice things there, its pity the Rangie is not one of them.....
With the L322, if it isn't the TDV8, get the petrol one. They are a much better motor. Tbh, the super charged V8 is a better choice. The derv used for the L322 wasn't that good. When I finally upgrade, I'll be going petrol. The economy of the derv doesn't outstrip the fuel cost difference.

Oh, and my P38 got properly stuck in mud on Thursday, wasn't even that bad. It was a grass embankment on the side of the road, I was even pointing down hill but was so stuck I needed pulling out. Mud is a bastard in any vehicle if you don't have the right tyres.

accros the road its the same factory they got the 6 year olds making the aftermarket and the 7 year olds doing the oem

If you think about it, it is the perfect business. The aftermarket is for the work experince and training of staff, the OEM is for those who are trained up.

As bad as it sounds, I'm in favour of child labour too, it gives them a job so they can eat, without a job they are homeless and starving. In an ideal world that wouldn't be the case, but this world is far from ideal.

yeah but it gives us **** parts for our landies. and lets be honest can you see LR paying a team of blokes to do quality checks on the gen parts for 20 year old landies- er no hence why you can buy a decent dizzy cap for love nor money

Since they only have to build parts for 10 years (might be 12, I'm getting old so have bad memory) after they stop selling the vehicle if you can still get new genuine parts then Landy are going above and beyond anyway.

But I suspect the quality control is a case of "it has a LR badge on it? Yes? Pass. No? Fail. Sell as after market part."

No mostly Samlesbury but did visit Warton now and again when they had a problem. Was not us that had the problem we used mostly LN, most of it was with NAS stuff.

Totally agree Bix, but with the right tyres on a P38 will go anywhere, apart from maybe a deep swimming session. The later Rangies with rubber band tyres just don't have the choice of tyres required for off-roading or the ground clearance with so much metal work below the axles. The P38 is the last of the true "Dual Purpose Rangies"...

imho.

Not sure about the fuel economy comment.

I commute to Selby and back to Barnsley/north side of Sheffield each day in my 2006 vogue 3ltr diesel.
I get 35/37 to the gallon on a steady run. ( upto 80 mph at times)
I have had it chipped, at a cost of £200 2years ago to give more power output and better fuel economy because you are not required to be as heavy footed on the gas pedal now that it has more power at lower revs/torque!

I'm happy:p

The l322 has a great range of AT tyres available on 19 inch rims, General grabbers, Yokohamas, Dunlops, all as good as the 16/18 inch rims on a p38!

I often take my l322 of road and from memory it performs allot better than my p38 with BFGS,s on the rims did.

It certainly tows allot better! :p

That is damn near 50% increase over the factory 25mpg. One hell of a chip you got there.

But the TD6 was gutless, almost no torque when compared to the petrol Vee. With the 10p difference between fuels up here, makes the Vee a better choice. Suppose if I did huge miles on a regular basis the derv would save pounds, but an average of 300 miles a month, I'm better with the power of displacement. No LPG for me either.

Dream on if you think the V8 can come anywhere near the M57 for fuel economy. You'll be lucky to see 15mpg on gas, 18 on petrol whereas the diesel will be doing close to 30mpg. No VANOS problems either, gearbox is junk on both so that's not a decider and the low end torque of the diesel is much better suited to off road and towing.:)

It was doing 32mpg on the same run, prior to chipping.
The 25mpg you are quoting. Is that the combined figure?
I stated on a RUN.

As for Gutless? Have you driven one? They will pull a house down!

Ah, yes, t'was using combined. I see it is a smudge over 30mpg based on official figures. So not such a mentalist chip.

288 TD6 or 328 V8. If we stick to the BMW engine era. The V8 is king. If we move into Jag/Ford engine era, then you'd be mad not to get the derv. Although the proper Vee will always sound better. Regardless of how far they have come in refining diesel, there is still too much Transit and not enough Luxury in a derv.

But that's just my opinion. Clearly you prefer the derv or you would've got the cheaper V8. When it boils down to it, we all have our own taste in vehicles. That is why some people get proper colours (Blue, Black) and some get disgusting colours (Pink, Silver, *sniggers* Gold :p ).
