I have been having some "interesting" readings from my speedo recently! Whilst driving along, it continually jumps all over the place! At times it randomly hops between 10 and 110mph. Quite annoying when it comes to going past a speed camera! And there are quite a few of those in Edinburgh. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong with it and how I can fix it?! Cheers, Andy

Either your speedo cables knackered or your speedo is. Try greasing the cable but my monies on the knackered speedo.

If i remember back to me tractor days, when i wer a lad:rolleyes:
i think the signal comes from the alternator thingy:confused:
but i niver had any hastle wi mine , So dunno:rolleyes:

Disco I has a mechanical speedo cable to the transfer box
Disco II is electronic and displays road speed as relayed from the SLABS ECU.

Most likely given that the needle is flicking all over the place you have lose connection somewhere.

If you have a 1997 onward disco it has a electronic speedo and has no cable. There is a transponder on the back of the G/box which might need cleaning or replacing (about £40). Its a easy job, just unplug, remove one Allen bolt and its out. Hope this helps

I had a similar problem with mine. The transducer is up between the transfer box and the hand brake drum. If thats not the problem (like mine) you can get a set of clocks of fleabay for about twenty pounds.

Buy a satnav unit that has a speed indicator. Like the one I have for sale on Ebay! Plus, you could add the speed camera software!
