I thought this would be a good chance to share dodgy repair work you have come across on your Landy.
This has come about as i keep finding little surprises all over my 110 as i work on it and come across previous home repairs.
Normally you find the issues around wiring that people have hacked into.
Since i have given the rear diff on the landy bit of a makeover this weekend i checked what felt like a lot of play in the rear drive shaft. I though maybe a shagged uj but the last prick that owned the landy before me left the drive shaft loose only held on by two nuts.

I can get ya one of the wiring, to make things worse with the wiring it has been cut and twisted together right where it enters the chassis. Not much room to solder in some new section seeing the old stuff will be a bitch to solder with all the corrosion on it.
 
It is normally welding when I work on cars. When I bought my disco I specifically looked for one that hadn't been touched. Completely original so I knew what I was dealing with. Yes it has taken me a little while to get welding, toys, etc sorted but I know it is 99% now.
 
Had birds nests behind me lights, after further investigation found it was actually the wiring for the headlights. Scotch locks everywhere! (And the lights werent working properly)

Have now sorted it and after modifying the lights with MHM's wiring diagram for adding relays to the loom have extremely good visibility with just the standard headlamps need to tidy up the loom hoping to locate some inch and a half conduit to hide the wires.
 
Here's a pic of the wiring. does not look too bad in the pic but wires all stiff and waiting to break

MY list would be endless so edited highlights
  • No gromets where lighting wires passed through to wings
    one wire in headlamp had 2 pieces of terminal block and one twisted and taped join.

  • Brake back plates on the wrong side of vehicle (therefore adjusters on trailing shoes).

  • No thermostat.

  • Lower spring clamp turned upside down and through 90 degrees to bring the shock mount to the front so leveling the vehicle.

That will do for now....
 
Welded sections that weren't actually welded onto the chassis :doh: don't know how he thought it was safe but someone had put a weld round the top of a plate and hadn't actually blended it to the chassis so when I came to weld it there was a flap hanging off the side of the rear rail on both sides
 
Oh and a bog roll and body filler bulkhead top which I've had to replace

Done a bodge with flat sheet just to get it solid but on the lookout for a new bulkhead now

Not a Land rover, but I bought a 2nd hand car from a main stealer once, it also had 2 bolts in the prop where there should have been four.
 
I used to own a 109'' truckcab that would not go round left hand corners, the reason being it was 109'' on one side and the other side had been repaired and the spring hanger welded on about 2'' less giving me 107'' on the other side..:eek::eek::)

o'dear i guess the problems on mine are fairly minor then
 
also not a landy but had a mini where someone used silicone sealant to hold on the sills!
 
not a landy but bought a morris minor pick up..

the chassis snapped and when i tried to weld it, it was made of baked bean tins and fibreglass..

oh and they had put i morris marina engine in it with minor gearbox, used minor fly wheel even though it was 4 bolt and the end of the crank shaft was 6.. so only two lined up, so they just used the two..

bought it off a teacher, always hated teachers!!!
 
Chap that bought my SIII found that the chassis had previously been repaired using a road sign (although being on the top of the rail, it wasn't actually attached properly!).
 
Bought a Land Rover S2 some years ago looked solid parted with my 500 Squids, well talk of well done fooled me fibre glass bulkhead and part of the chassis.:mad::mad:
 
Bloke took a car to my son for MOT, saying brakes pulled to one side. Parently it had been like that ever since he'd bought it off e-bay 6 months and 10,000 miles previously.

Off side rear had no wheel cylinder or brake shoes and flexi was clamped with a rusty pair of mole grips!
