Hi all,

My S3 88 has developed a bit of a braking problem! Now I know the brakes on a Series landy arent the best in the world, but mine just decided not to work!! On first press the pedal goes to the floor, but after 2 or 3 pumps pressure is back enough for them to work(ish). At first I thought Ah ah air in the system, so I bled them out and all was fine, for about a week, now the problem has returned!
I've checked all the wheel cylinders (which have been replaced fairly recently) and the master cylinder and resivoir, no obvious leaks and it doesnt appear to be losing fluid (resivior still full).
Any one got an idea what the problem could be!!!!

Cheers
Steve

It's go to be an air leak if you have to pump them the they work and if they worked after they were bled. How old is the fluid?

Not sure how old the fluid was - But it had new wheel cylinders all round in November, and I bled the system through with fresh fluid, so I think the fluid is OK - someone has suggested the master cylinder maybe letting fluid past, but there doesnt appear to be any leak there!!!

Sounds like a master cylinder seal - you push the pedal down and the fluid goes past the seal instead of being pressurised. Put a new Girling one in. Dearer than pattern parts but still not that expensive. Unless you've got a bulging flexible pipe somewhere.....

Thanks for the replies guys, will check flexi pipes and master cylinder tomorrow (if I'm sober after tonight)

Happy new year one and all

Just had exactly the same problem on my series 3 and it was the master cylinder. a tip for you, the only way I could get to the bottom bolt on the master cylinder was to have some one push down the brake pedal so I could get access to it with a socket on an extension bar.

Yeah, I checked the shoe adjustments, did them to the book when i bled the system! the pull off springs look ok but not too sure!
gonna try changing the master cylinder, thanks for the tip about the bottom bolt, prob wouldve struggled for ages before sussing that one out!!
