Hi All
Im a relative newby to landrovers and I dont know if my problem is a problem or normal.

I'm renovating a series 3 which arrived as a wreck so i never got to try it before stripping it down.

On putting the steering back together I find that it takes just under 1 1/2 turns of the steering wheel to go from center to right lock but almost 2 turns to go to left lock.
The road wheels turn through the same angle.
Everything seems fine except this.

Is this normal?

Hi put yer wheels straight undo the link from the steering box to the first arm in the engine bay. go full lock on the steering then go full lock the other way and count the turns go back half way and re conect the arm this will centre yer steering. but first make sure yer wheel stops are set the same. :D

Thanks for the quick replys
I have not adjusted the box as there is little play.

The Landy is on axel stands.
Both wheel stops are the same.
With the drop arm off the steering box I have 4 turns end to end.
so I set 2 turns and reconnect the drop arm (with the wheels straight).

everything turns fine.
A little play but nothing much.
the road wheels turn to full lock without problem but it takes over half a turn more to left than right.

? Have you checked the relay they can stiffern up and if yer arms arnt done up tight they can move a bit, get someone to wiggle the stering and watch yer relay? :D also are all the ball joints ok?

A question for you all, been off roading today and wheels turned right on a rock to max, after I came out of lane steering lock to left was not as much as before and the centre point of the steering had changed by about quarter of a turn on steering wheel, track rods not bent and don't see that the relay hs slipped on the splines, took bottom relay arm off and recentred the wheel but worried now that something has twisted and might cause me aproblem in future. Thinkig about changing relay, there is play in steering might have to adj box soon. Any ideas?

will do thnks, think splines are twisted a little on relay they look it, so will have to thibk about new one.
Just finished spending loads of money on parras and shocks etc and today blew back diff, damaged steering and left loads of rubber on road as diff locked and threw metal trought the casing. Will have to ge the welder out on the caseing again
