On mine there was a spacer(included) you had to fit if you removed the tow point. But that might depend on the manufactor.

arrr that explains a lot lol that must be why it is like this ,
(mines a landrover one and its welded on lol on that side so i assume i must have to)

Can you not remove the spacer? If you remove the tow ring, you'll miss it. My Witter bar fit's with the factory tow ring in place.

well looks like ive got dramas :mad2::mad2::mad2:
took me around 1 hr to get the 6 bolts holding the very very rusty tow eye bracket on

but the threads where the braket was are all clean and fine but on the other side is def a dif story , to be honest not sure if i can get a bolt into any of the 3 holes

also has it happens the wire i have for the electrics turns out to only be 6 core not 7 :-( how much of a no no would it be to wire it up but miss out fog light

Grind or file a taper on a bolt an file a couple of lengthway grooves with the edge off a halfround file or thin cutting disc.

well in the end i bought a new tap and die kit,and redid / cleaned the threads all out

so day was the day of fitting

(before anyone says the connector of the wire is not staying on )

well i must admit WHAT A #### THAT WAS TO FIT:(:(:(:(:(:(:(
i needed to keep the old tow eye plate on :rolleyes:so had to tidy it up a little and refit that ,also it took ages to get all the bolts to line up correctly but got there in end :eek::eek:

all fitted up and straight :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::):):):):):)

now after reading the forum im sure i read that behind the plastic side cover there should be a factory fitted plug for the electrics ,was going to splice into the wires behind the plug ,but where is it :eek::eek::eek:

If you feel behind the panel where you have pulled the loom out of you should find it.
Its clipped to the panel itself.
One of those white clips that are just visible should be holding it.
White connector block.

found the plug ,went and got some small connecter thinking i could crimp them on and all would be good ,turns out there to big and will touch each other so looks like wire clippers are coming out ,will have to snip plug off, slid a heat shrink sleeve over the wire, solder them together then shrink the sleeves over the joins ,im sure that should do the job

or i could cowboy it and use these

what do you reckon ?

With the known problems regarding damp in the loadspace of Hippo's, I personally would go for soldered joints covered with glue lined heat shrink tubing which will give the joint excellent protection.
DO NOT use Scotchlock type connectors-they are crap !!!

right im going to cut the plug off today but i need to know which wire does what ,the new socket is wired up as follows

but as you can see from the pic below the caes wirers are dif colours ,any one know which wire on the car does what ??

or where can i get a freelander rear light wiring diagram from to work it out ?

Find a chassis earth point then you can probably work them out with a voltmeter.
Indicators will be obvious, don't suppose it matters about left or right for brake, tail or fog - does it?
