Hi when you fit a dixon bates hitch , there are 6 mounting holes do you use all 6 or just 4 , x2 on the cross angle plate that bolts to the rear member and x2 on the brace legs that fix to the chassis , Reason i ask is if you use the top 2 bolts also they go through the rear cross member which in effect is a hollow section , so would just crush or bend at least .

think you'll find its got a tube on the inside so unless you get silly with the spanners should be fine ;)

Thanks , not sure whats inside but as you say dont go daft , From pics ive found all seem to use the x2 botttom bolts to the stays and x2 of the top 4 into the angle plate that fixes under the the cross member either the the top or bottom 2 depending on what height you require , ive put the extra 2 through the chassis but only nipped up as the strength is in the other 4 i hope !!!

I have just done this and managed to crush the rear crossmember, only slightly but its a replacement crossmember before I had the vehicle and there are no crush tubes in there at all..

It should be secured with all 6

Not according to Dixon Bate just use the bottom 2 on the rear crossmember.

I am afraid.. mine started collapsing as there were not crush tubes in there :(

As Ratty says - 6 bolts

Top of Tow plate goes bolts through bottom holes of crossmember

My DixonBates came with a steel bar with two welded captive nuts on it to spread the load at the back of the crossmember

Yes indeed perhaps I was not clear as I said the cross member just has 2 bolts through (this is the captive nuts) you refer to. Rattys thumb nail shows 4 bolts going through to the crossmember horizontally which is not as Dixon Bate say to fit it according to my instructions received from them.

2 Bolts through cross member horizontally, 3 vertically through to the bracket to the undersection of the cm and 2 horizontally to the bracket which is attached to the CM.
