Hi Guys.... I put a deposit down on a RR P38 V8 4.0L County today... love the simple classical lines... 78k miles FSH, 10 months MOT, Met Blue with blue piped- Cream leather interior... drives and looks lovely... fingers crossed that i can pick it up Saturday... Air con needed attention and drivers (electric) height adjuster were faulty, dealer fixing them as condition of sale.. 3months warranty on engine and gearbox.. Air suspension appears to be working as it should ...
The county model was a slightly chearper version (apart from the gorgeous seats) the things it does not have are as follows
No Sunroof
No Heated seats
No electric memory seats (apart from electric height drivers side)
No Heated windscreen (shame wanted that)
No Sat Nav
No premium in car entertainment
no headlamp wipers
None of the above bother me...(apart from heated windscreen)...slightly less to go wrong!!
Love the non blingy classical looks...
still a luxury car...
and most of all its just right for me!

It does have a lovely Cream leather interior
silky smooth V8 and low miles...

Pick it up Saturday....





will hopefully be a regular visitor here...

Good luck, you should hope not to be a regular visitor on here as coming to LZ usually means you have a problem:eek: Most of the things you have not got are things that don't work anyway.

Thanks for the welcome... i guess you are right about less to go wrong...although a heated windscreen would have been nice in the snow.....i cant help thinking the lack of toys equate to a slightly lower kerb weight ...(favorably impacting fuel consumption?)
is there a section on here regarding driving a RR in snow... ive never used a autobox with low-range and i live at the bottom of a steepish (1-7)hill that always gets snowed in.. and i dont even know about the diffs and how to lock them...

apologies if this is boring newbie stuff....

Triumph Stag... 1981... aural excitement... never owned one.. loved the sound... my mate's

TVR 450 SEAC 1991.... aural butchery of eardrums... just a test drive

I love V8's not had one since 1990 when i was punting a corvette 5.7 V8 around... mmmm

now this...;)

The heated screens fail very quickly, mine lasted 18 months.
The P38 has amazing traction, the centre diff locks automatically via a VCU, in addition it will have either 2 wheel or 4 wheel traction control. You are unlikely to need low range except to control descent.
Stopping the beast or changing direction on ice is another matter, 2.25 tonnes does not like to do either and as all 4 wheels are driven it's very easy to lose grip on all 4 wheels just by lifting off the throttle as I found to my cost when I first got mine:eek: So be extra careful with speed on ice.

I don't know what 1-7 is in new money, but I lived at the bottom of a 16% hill and low range just caused me more problems trying to get up (a god send on the way down though). I found sticking it in drive and gunning it up the hill got me out every time with little or no wheel spin. Trying to do things the "correct" 4x4 way, of low and hill climb mode just caused the electrics to **** the bed, especially when I came across some ice.

Thanks for the advice.... i guess a non functioning heated windscreen is very frustrating..and more expensive to replace..than my boggo glass one...
so nothing needs to be set or pressed just to drive it on snow and the car will do everything automatically?
great..... that makes it easier... i noticed new RR's have terain selection.. again more to fix when it breaks...

Do owners suffer paranoia when all is well with their cars....?:)

Yes:rolleyes::D
If you look under the plastic trim under the wipers, the odds are that the wiring for the heated screen is there, if the relays are also there, all you need is a little accident to your screen and you can have a new electric one fitted on your insurance:D
Just don't forget they don't stop on ice:eek::eek::eek:

Hi and :welcome: to the mad world of RR ownership.

A couple of quick tips:
As it's getting colder if your not using the car daily I would advise fitting some type of trickle charger but make sure it is suitable to charge while connected. The P38 hates weak batteries and can discharge overnight if the RF receiver for the central locking/alarm picks up stray wireless signals.

Do a search of posts on battery drain and get familiar with this issue.

Make sure you have the "EKA" and radio code for your vehicle when you collect it, you will need it one day.

Not trying to scare you, they are great vehicles but do have there funny little ways.

My 4.0 SE also doesn't have a heated screen button although I've noticed that windscreen itself has the heating elements (must have been replaced at one point). Maybe I'll take a look to see if the wiring is there :)

True story, whenever my battery gets low (common in the cold) the horn sounds when I'm starting it. Weirdest glitch ever. I remember at one stage I just unhooked both horns to stop it altogether.
 
Welcome.

Make sure you have some decent tyres on it for the snow.

and remember, they don't like to stop on ice!

I have an Optimate 4.... Works on the rest of my tiny fleet.. !!

Where is the RF ariel? How simple is the upgrade for a amature ?
 
Under the Parcel Shelf Plastic Cover where the rear Seats latch into (Drivers side I think) Little Black box with a Blue Aerial Lead Attached....

Dead simple to get at and change out!
