hi i have a 110 factory v8 on a d plate 1986 and i want to swap the old points dizzy (the 1 with the ballast next to the coil ) with a new electronic one that i have, which has got the ballast on the side of the dizzy. is it just a simple case of cutting the two wires coming from the old ballast box to dizzy and rejoing them to the 2/3 connector plug on the ballast box of the new dizzy?

on an electonic dizzy the box on the side with 2 x terminals is the amplifier needs to be wired to coil + plus - respectively using siutabe coil as eltronic coil is a lot higher voltage

hi thanks for your response, do you know where the old wires go from the ballast box? ,or is it a case of removing the old coil and ballast and fitting new ? are their any extra wires needed /or not needed from where the old ballast is/was to the new coil? anyone got any wiring diagrams? I have a suitable electronic coil for it .
I dont know if it makes any difference but its running on petrol/gas with a 500 webber .

Don't know if its any help, but I've just changed the dizzy on my 94 RR 3.9.

The original plug had 3 connections, but only 2 are used the outside ones.
Tried them one way round and nothing, reversed the wires and problem solved.

The thing in the side of an electronic dizzy is not a Ballast but an amplifier!

You will need to bypass your original ballast resistor as the correct coil to match the electronic dizzy needs a 12V supply.
