I have managed to get hold of a distributor from a new range rover (still a classic) Only thing is on the side of it looks to have what looks like and ignition amplifier it still has the vacumm advance, would this be ok to replace the one i have which doesnt have anything apart from the vacumm advance on the side ??

As far as I know, there are some variations on the dizzy fitted on the V8. Eightinavee or Irishrover might be more able to answer your question but the differences in distributor will most likely be advance curves, 2 pin or 3 pin ignition amplifier, attached or remote amplifier.

I also seem to think you can't fit the wrong dizzy because the position of the vacuum unit is very slightly different. I was given a DLM8 dizzy but it wouldn't fit - used it for spares, vacuum unit, base plate/pick up and reluctor. Then the bits I didn't use I "modified" so I can feel for timing chain slack - works well.

Well it didnt fit in the end, the amplifier wouldnt alloy the distributor to sit in its place due to fouling on the P/steering pump not to concerned as it was a freebie from the scrappy

where are you? i have a distributor that i took out of my 1988 3.5 efi, and replaced with a new one, to try and cure the pinking at high throttle, didnt work? £350 for nothing
if you want i could try to get my mate to put it onto fleabay, for a very cheap buy it now price?
