Hi all!

I'm pretty sure I have warped discs - not sure if it's front and/or back but I'm thinking just to be safe I'll replace the whole lot.

Is there any particular brand/make that people recommend I go for? Not terribly keen on using cheapo biscuit tin lids with ink eraser pads.

Recommendations welcome!

Hi Domino

I just replaced my front discs, pads and callipers. I got the Delphi discs and pads, carriers and Britpart callipers.

The general consensus of the forum was that the Britpart calipers, although not great, have such a good price (33.00 +vat) as apposed to 100.00 plus for an OEM and could be changed out almost as a consumable. They seemed of reasonable quality.

My brakes are much better now with the new system. The old ones were the original I think and a little tired.

The whole job took about 4hrs inc jacking up making a couple of cable brackets and bleeding. I think I was quite lucky as there were no seized bolts or anything unpleasant. I used quite a bit of copper ease during the reassembly.

Good luck with the job

I totally agree just done the exact same thing got all my bits from Island4x4 highly recommend. Good price and next day delivery. Took me slightly longer but totaly changed the truck now brakes are sharp and crisp.

check out my brake disc post will show you a nice photo of my grooved n drill discs
Grooved and drilled discs are a liability on a P38, nothing wrong with the standard discs, anything else is window dressing. Hope you painted the callipers red to really attract attention:rolleyes:

lol yes we established that in my thread but they look great. never did get the calipers painted tho.

Thanks all.

Will go for the Delphi pads and discs from island then. Would put drilled/grooved on a RR...Or pretty much anything to be honest!

as i said in my original thread regarding this i didnt fit the grooved n drilled discs for performance gains just looks. yes yes i know the off road argument regarding collecting mud etc but lets be very honest here i didnt get my car to go mud plugging been there done that thank you very much still got mates who go to slindon and i join them for my mud fix.

standard discs are more than up to the job and cheap mine were not much more than standard hardly anything in it.

But and this is important bit my old discs were shagged out i found the fitted pads to be badly cracked due to heat build up due to the very worn discs they are now pin sharp if you have worn discs/pads get them changed as with all worn parts on your motor its your life and the lives of others.

im sure standard discs would be just as good but not look as good :D

I've got drilled and grooved discs and red calipers and drive in mud.
I like the look, I have great brakes (my MOT examiner's opinion) and have no worries.

I`ve got drilled and grooved fitted as well, didnt get round to painting the new calipers thay do look better and more perpusefull on a motor that size, and thay do stop it very well, tryed that out on motor way the other day i stopped afew off the outher cars didnt

:clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2: not bad for a 2 n half tonne car

It weighs more now because the other cars ran into the back of him.;):D:D

They missed fortunatly, bet they paniced with the tow bar and other metal work on the back of mine would have made a right mess,
new should have bought the sticker that said YOUR SKID STOPS HERE:D

Had an Classic years ago, I was waiting to turn right into a car park and a young lad in a Marina hit me at speed. He broke the tow hitch cover and a fog light. The Marina never survived:D

Brouther was in an old landy in traffic on motorway guy went up the back, they pulled onto hard shoulder, walked round to see the guy to find his bumper hanging on the tow bar,no damage to the landy:)

I need to get a new set of Discs and Pads all round for our P38 DSE.
I was looking at getting these -
RANGE ROVER P38 2.5 & V8 NEW FRONT AND REAR BRAKE DISCS & BRAKE PADS SET | eBay

or are these worth the extra £35?

Has anyone else tried these?
I don't trust drilled discs but don't mind grooved. Drilled discs are better if spending a fortune but at the cheaper end of the scale they are just weaker than just normal vented.

Hi Zaff

See my post on page 1, I have fitted the Delphi pads and discs, however I also replaced the callipers and the brakes are very good now.

I would just go with the Delphi option, as wiser heads than mine have stated, the grooved/drilled option is purely aesthetic in this instance, if you know what I mean

I have another fast car on which I do put expensive brake discs and pads and I wouldn't have it any other way. The Range Rover on the other hand, I feel is ok with non original parts provided they are of reasonable quality and don't compromise on safety.

Thanks for the info. Just got a message in my 07 TD8 to check pads and was wondering what "make" to get so will go with `Delphi option which local motor factors stock. Great info on this forum as always......

You may find you have to replace the wear sensor as well.
