'best pads and discs to get are by ebc - i use their 'greenstuff' pads - more bite and last 3 times longer than the standard landrover ones. Their discs don't seem to rust like the originals either.'

just ordered my ebc grooved discs and green stuff pads. They'll be going on in jan with a new set of tyres and will sort the tracking at the same time. Will hopefully notice a difference with all that as not cheap!

I've read through this thread and the links attached. I'm particularly intrigued by the LR bulletin regarding correct handed fitmeny of pads.

I'm just about to change the pads on my 05 FL and have gotten hold of a set of Mintex pads. However, they are not handed; each pad has an equal chamfer on either end. I seem to remember the Pagid ones I fitted previously being the same as these Mintex ones.

The brakes do squeal on braking and seem to wear fairly quickly (8-10k miles out of a set?). They also have never been particularly efficient (nasty fade at high speed \ heavy loads).

Would I be better getting a main dealer set of pads or is there anything else I need to know about the parts or the job?
 
I'm doing pad's and disc's tomorrow and as hippo said the chamfer on the new pad's are the same.
 
OK thanks, it looks like they "rationalised" the design then! I'll carry on as I was.

Unless somebody else has tips to stop the squealing?

I always thought the squeal was down to the pads vibrating when braking. Copper grease on the correct bit's solved this on mine.

If there's a lip on the brake disc outer edge that could rub when the wheel turns.
 
I put new ventilated discs and pads on mine and they squeeled like hell

cured the problem with copperslip on the back of the pads

made the mistake of not cleaning the calipers off thougherly enough the first time and on further inspection found the pasenger side caliper was sticking so just bought a new caliper

hope u get it sorted as I know it drove me nuts
 
Can anyone confirm which way the brake pads go in if they only have the one chamfer do they point down or up cheers
 
well according to what I have seen the inside pad the chamfer is at the bottom and the out side one it is at the top have a look on youtube .hope this helps
