So I've got myself a winch and discrete mount. Seems fairly straight forward to fit the mount to the front and winch to the mount. But I can't figure something out. The winch mounts to the front of the mount with the plate of the mount facing forwards. The hole for the rope is at the bottom. But because of how the winch sits in it the rope doesn't feed straight out the hole and has to run over the edge of the hole to get out the front.

The winch mount plate is offset in its design. So the winch has to sit backwards. Which causes this problem! Can't see any way to sort this?

It's the bearmach mount. Pics show how it is. The mount is lying front down in the pic.

It's a warn m8000. Only minor things. Maybe myself if I get stuck every now and again but mostly for pulling trees over which doesn't require too much force.

See how your winch is sat on the bench is how it needs to mount, you need a bottom front and sides or it will not pull right

That's my thinking. I thought it would have a piece for the winch to sit in like a tray. But this is backwards, on its side and feeding out wrong so not got the confidence in it. The picture on the instructions is how it will mount to the chassis using existing bumper bolts. Ill get it sent back and get a terrafirma one!

You could get sgm fabrication to make you one :p

Looks about right. Will confirm the measurements tomorrow. The important ones are the height width depth and also the spaces for the bolt holes?

I want a discreet winch mount. So a tray it seems. So the fair lead sticks out underneath the number plate on the original bumper. Can't justify a full bumper and not keen on the look. Plus the scallys round here would nick it just for that!

If you pm me your number I will give you a call tomorrow.

it looks like an 8274 mount to me, front mounted. The opening dosent look central either.

has the rope been spooled on backwards?

I also thought about this.

Could you not just turn the winch round though?

Also, what is that mount made off? looks like ali? And not thick ali at that! or am i mistaken?

Looks to be 5mm plat bent and bolted together. It will be no good as it will bow under pressure. My warn bumper is 11mm

The opening is not central so the winch won't fit on in a way to let the rope spool out the right way. It is not on backwards. Got this winch off Sam (mr noisy) last week and I'm certain he did it right!

It's 5mm. Looks and feels like steel but could be galvanised maybe? Way too heavy for ali.

I wouldn't mind one made up in some heavier plate. Ill see how thick the terrafirma one is. That looks like its made better!

for fitting
1,remove grill
2, undo bumper bolts. you do NOT remove the bumper, so it looks like this
20130306_192632_zpse1b639ae.jpg

3, undo the 19mm nut under the steering box
4, lift winch tray onto the 19mm bolt, pop a bolt throw other side
20130306_192606_zps94b8ad47.jpg

5, winch tray can now hang like this

6, with one hand you can now lift into position, push a bolt throw to hold in place (just one will do)

7, now one bolt at a time, take bolts out and push throw the opposite way to photo.
8, tighten all the nuts
9, trim the bits you need to on the disco and fit the winch

Nice work Stu. :clap2:

I bet a few people would buy one of them on Ebay???
