Hi all,

We have an X reg Disco XS in the maroon colour, 110k miles and in excellent condition. For the amount of vehicle and the features it has we don't seem to be getting offers of much above £3k... An auction house said we'd be lucky to get £3k. Is this right? There just isn't a market for such a big vehicle anymore...

Cheers

Will

Simple answer is no...

People don't want big vehicles and low economy anymore, Disco 1's are down to £500 so that covers the off road market, that means theres not alot of people left to buy one...

In all honesty £3K sounds like a good price, I have seen plenty cheaper than that...

I sold a T reg one over 6 months ago for less than £3k, there is no market for them and the TD5's really aren't that great, i'd pay more for a 300tdi than a TD5.

If you can get £3k for it, take it.

not necessarily true- on the news last week, land rover have reported booming sales. maybe its just that most people who can afford to run them buy newer cars

Like people who can afford new landrovers are bothered about running costs?

Thats because landrover have a massive export market, the UK market for large vehicles has collapsed, thats why we have stopped selling them. We use to love the big 4x4's, I could sell them all the time but now everyone wants a 1.0L tin box!!

Have a look on ebay and see what the big BMW's and Mercs are going for, your getting silly 80K+ new price cars going for less than a grand!!

I was hoping it'd be worth £4-5k but I think that's a little optimistic now.

I'll list it in the Auto Trader and other places for £4k and see what happens. It's a very good example compared to others I have seen on eBay and in the Auto Trader.

thats what i said!! if fuel economy is not an issue due to the fact you have plenty of cash, then why buy an old disco when you can afford a new one (unless of course you prefer the old ones) jongould suggested that people weren't buying bigger gas-guzzlers these days but i pointed out that land rover sales were up- highest ever actually! so that can't be the case- try reading the thread properly!:5bbanghead:

i think those who can afford them in the uk are still going for 4x4's. i do some part time work for an airport parking company and the amount of land rovers and range rovers we get is unbelievable

I might be wrong but its he time of year where ppl don't need landys so are spending money on soft tops and bikes. Keep hold of it till winter and it will be worth more.

Whats the bit in red got to do with 10 year old disco's?

I paid £3000 for an X reg TD5 with 140k miles then another £1600 getting it decent!!!

I actually like the very low spec, no sun roofs to leak, no aircon to go wrong no air suspension or ACE. Perversely I think thebasic spec ones may be more sought after!!!

But also the market is very poor. I advertised one of our MX5;s (mk1 with 60k miles) and didnt get a single enquiry - would have thought somebody would have at least looked at such a low mileage classic?

Look at the price of road tax now, that is what puts people off and the Government are using us 4x4 drivers to counter the tax shortfall they loose every time they sell a new low emissions vehicle cos the owners pay very little or no tax.

I just paid Around £225 for the year, it keeps going up, its an H reg disco1.
