Hi there,
just come from shopping and the back door is jammed shut. The central locking is working just wondered how the hell i can release it. I have had to get the shopping out by putting the seats down.

Thanks
Craig

Try removing Land Rover badge from the handle and spraying the workings with WD40. Work the handle until it is moving free. They jam up over the winter with the salt.

if that doesnt work, it should open from inside.if not pull the door card off and move the lever by hand.
remove latch-clean & regrease & refit if it does it again its a new one.

Try flicking the handle multiple times in quick succession with the finger tips. This may work. On mine I had a couple of chances with this until the lock failed. A new one from LR is about £50 and easy enough to fit.

Cheers, Andy

Might sound obvious but mine did this once, and it was because the rear load cover had slipped after the wife putting shopping in the boot and it was preventing the small pop up button from popping up....had the rear seats down and everything before i realised....

Mine done this last week. I put a post up and followed some good advice. Popped the landrover badge out and gave the mechanism a good blast of wd40. Worked for me.

Have you tried clambering over the back seats and trying the inner door handle... if it opens then it could be the locks FUBAR... once open try the WD40 thing but if the locks gone south, £65 from fleebay and a couple of quid for the door car clips... 1 hour and job fixed

Sorted guy's just remove the badge and WD40 and it freed up. In fact its not failed since touch wood. Thanks for your help. first Second hand land i have bought looking forward to the tampering and tinkering.

I had recurrent failures after using the WD40 - worked for a bit then stiffened up again over time.

Followed advice on here and covered the bastard in spray grease - no problems since :D

after using WD40 which does dry out I use spray on liquid grease which solidifies after running into all the parts and corners etc

Put some spray grease on it or it will die like mine did about a month later. Obviously, at the most inconvenient time possible.

What was it about last weekend ? - exactly the same happened to my TD5 too !
I managed to get mine to free up initially by removing the rear speaker pod & getting my fingers up into the mechanism from inside the car & moving things slightly.

The door then opened & I then removed the door card & could get at the lock mechanism to clean the muck out & spray with lubricant.

My problem also now gone away (for the time being ?)

My rear door was jammed yesterday, and thanks to the tip of removing the LR badge from the handle, spraying with WD40 via "thin straw", all is back to normal.
Thanks for the tip, saved me a few bob :)

BTW, could this have been due to the incredibly long dry spell we've had in Essex, making everything so dusty. Unfortunately, I can't get my disco in my garage (aperture too small) so open to the elements :(

Fabulous information - just what I was looking for. I was all up for clambering into the back, unloading the boot through the car and removing the door card to hunt down the problem. Off came the badge, on went the WD40 and problem sorted!!!
