hi, bit of advice needed, would you replace the faulty gearbox with another gearbox from a salvaged car or would you get the faulty gearbox recondioned.

stupid question really
it depends on lots of things
how rich you are
availability / provenence of potential salvage replacement
how quick you need the vehicle back on the road
your attitude to the risk of it going wrong again
etc

only you know the answer....

I would recon the old box, you know what you have then.
