Morning Hornet
That sounds abit scary, momentary lock up at 40 mph.
Think I read on here a while ago that fooked wheel bearing has that very symptom, didn't over tighten it did ya.
I could be wrong but that's prob easiest quickest fix.

Morning ian,

Yeah its true the 1600 zetec-s or zetec-se is a very good strong motor, and works really well with wild cams and TBs. i think jenvey are available off the shelf at reasonable money!

regards that bearing, im sure you will find the inner bearing has fallen to bits. simple fix to a scary problem!

As per my text I have bearings "in stock" if you need them

Thanks Matt, I will take you up on that. Can i book it in to my favourite workshop for Saturday afternoon early evening? I will pay ramp time :):)

BTW are ou planning on geting some more veggie over the weekend?

Thanks for the input guys, very much appreciated!!

Ian I can do although I still have 3/4 tank so that should do me but will/can grab some more Saturday morning as I don't want to put it in the RS!!
Stu I get it from bookers costs around £20 for a 20l drum

Cheers Matt, about the same price from Makro...

Have been looking into filtering chip shop stuff since the price is going up as quick as the black stuff it would seem

Tightened it all up as the bearing nut had come loose and it all seemed OK this morning until the wheel momenterily locked up at 40mph. No bangs or rattles!!
I would have that hub to pieces as soon as you can. If it locked momentarily then something has siezed and freed which probably means there is a load of metal pieces grinding away in there ruining everything it touches.

I had exactly the same symptoms with mine and despite there being little lift or play, when I stripped it the inner bearing was completely trashed and I had to replace everything from the stub axle out.

Well a big thank you to Matt Baxter for helping me change the front hub Bearings with the use if his lovely ramp! Cheers dude.

The inner bearing had completely disintegrated and bits were everywhere. But an hour or two later it was all done and working fine.

BTW the best tool ever was a bearing race drifting tool that Matt had. Aluminium discs machine to fit bearing outers that could be hammered into place easily. It was a piece of pee to put the bearings back with this.

So off for a gat day tomorrow off roading and then a new timing belt and fluid change all round.

PS
Picked my new toy up today and it hasn't stopped raining for a week so no play time in it yet. Will post photos when I can for posterity.

When mine did it Tue race welded to stub, so had to melt it with oxy-cetaline torch then round it off with grinder. Not fun as I started at 8pm 2 nights before silverdale! Never again!! Got bearings down to less than an hour now tho, done that many recently including rear on morning OF silverdale lol

We tend to use an old bearing race.... Ground a slot out of it so that it doesn't fit too tight and it works a treat (A tip we got from Jai_Landrover the first time Kai did the bearings!)

Well I do need to do some weeding as my bush is too thick lol.

Seriously things have been stressed in my little world. Got made redundant a few months ago and since then I have been doing the Zetec conversion on the lotus. All is good but the wiring is ****ing me off now.

As for the 'Hornet' - Well it is due to be back on the road at the end of this month. Photos will follow as usual as before then I have to do a winch bumper and tree sliders plus the HD rear bumper. I have a secondhand 12000lb winch to fit as well as it is too big for a door stop in the garage and I keep falling over the damn thing.

I also have the timing belt and water pump to replace, again they are gracing my shelf as well as a new radiator.

I see that you have gone down the bonnet pin route, after me of course lol. Yours are nicer obviously.

As for the condition of the Hornet, well as it has no bumper, it is on its third set of lights and sporting new dints on the wing leading edges, oh and a sodding big groove down the passenger side door.

Much fun has been had though lol

Wayhay he speaks!

Sorry to hear about your redundancy, it's bad news for everyone out there these days :(

On a lighter note I'm glad to hear the Hornet is getting along nicely!

Regrettably I did not copy you on bonnet pins, just that my OEM bonnet cable is part seized and my bonnet catch is an absolute swine to release, and since taking the bonnet off to pull the engine I could not be bothered to spend hours trying to get it all lined up again so I went for the altogether better aerocatch option!

Thanks for noticing :)

Good to hear from you mate!

Trax99,

Thanks for the comments. You can search discoventures on you tube to see the old girl in action. Other vids are on under green hornet too. I will as always post piccys as I work lol.

Noisy,

The hornet is working great and as all around me go for big tyres and gripper tread, I am the only one on standard diffs and as yet to break anything.

I am starting the bumper tabs and winch install on Sunday next so will have plenty to tell I'm sure, after that I think it may be time to do some trials in standard class and see how I fair.
