I found that the rubber seal around the inner part of the front sun roof was letting in excess water , so took it out and siliconed it. It looks as if the water sitting in the channel was getting too high and working its way through the edge of the rubber where it meets the frame. This seems to have cured it.

Just found this great HOW TO . Both my sunroofs have started leaking lately ......... looks like a day of a job but easy enough !!!

have just cured my leaking sunroof after reading this, none of whats been mentioned has worked for mine,so off to local metal suppliers for a piece of chequer plate and some pop rivets.job done forever!

Got to agree, Just spent the afternoon taking my rear sunroof out and resealing it WHAT A PILE OF CRAP never seen such a cheap nasty bit of kit.
What were Leyland thinking when they bought those sunroofs,no wonder they leak. While I'm at it ( ranting that is )Whats wrong with using primer under the boot floor paint,so that at least it would have a bit of a chance against the water leaking in through the roof. Not as if Disco's were that cheap when they were new.

Hi there I would just like to thank you on your pics and how you fixed that leaky sun roof I've followed it though and do far so good and saved myself a fortune doing it thank you once again:)

Very useful ! Just did mine , didnt know my roof leaked until last night when i parked it facing opposite way to normal, headliners soaked ! :( drain pipes all seemed okay so thinking the silicone seal around the top should do the trick , fingers crossed :)

just used your tip for fixing a broken drain tube spigot and am glad to report it seems to work very well, thanks for posting

Thanks for re-posting. Just the article I've been looking for! I'm a newbie to owning a Land Rover, taking the plunge with a TD5 Discovery on a 53 Plate. One month in to the day... noted the headliner is damp between the sun visor and the windscreen. First job for the New Yar when it stops raining!

try parking facing the other way worked on mine doesnt leak when i park up the street;)

If you go to the trouble of taking out your headliner, try and leave it out for a few days after you have 'fixed' your leak to make sure you have ! Soak the roof to check for leaks before you re-fit.

Hi Guys,

I am too am new to this (despite having had a 300 Disco 1 as a company car way back in 1997). I have just purchased a 2003 Disco 2 which does not leak, so far. I have a steep slope on my drive so do I park with the front or rear uphill to avoid the dreaded drip?:crazy_driver:

Hi guys, hoping someone can give me an idea where to start looking for the cause of my leak. When I bought my discovery td5 I knew about the leaking sunroofs, so as the one I went to buy had 2 & it was a wet day I felt all round the headlining to make sure there was no dampness & all good or so I thought . Mine leaks & drips down through the actual front sunroof handle  so would mine likely be a blocked pipe or could it be the sunroof seal, as I`d like to have the part`s that I`m likely to need on the day.

Cheer`s, Dan.

Sunroof leaks.
Great article but is there a way of clearing the drain tubes without removeing the sun roof unit from the roof. I have been trying to see if i could see the drains from above but dont seem to be able and were do the drains drain to. With the way that the weather has been of late i dont want to open every thing up and then get rained on. This has all come to light when i started getting strange electrical problems like central locking not working, No indecators or hazards, ect. After putting a blower heater blowing under the dash all came back but for how long.
Help, im drouning!!!!

They dont. The front ones finish inside the A pillar and are the start of the rotten bottom A pillar syndrome. Landrover have executed a nice double wammy there :d.. Best thing is to replace the complete tube and ensure it sticks out of the bottom of the A pillar.

Being new to this game, can someone tell me which is the 'A' pillar and what other pillars there are, and do both front and rear drains go the same route. :( and from outside the sun roof were are the drains!!! Can they be seen from out side.
